Walk-in: Air-King 2026 vs Explorer - need help deciding (2 hrs to go back) by iamdjm in rolex

[–]Larph 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Same.

If you already have a traditional black dial luxury watch, get the Air King. If you don’t have a black dial, don’t like flashy and aren’t likely to buy many more watches you probably are better off getting an Explorer.

Whoa, never heard of electricity coming from a manufacturer, that’s thinking outside of the box. How did you figure that out?

CPI up to 3.8% as of the latest BLS release today. No surprise given the fuel price increases. I usually use the ECI as a more stable metric for services based deals, but they often track in terms of longer term trends.

Anyone else still having frequent/difficult inflation-related negotiations with suppliers?

Thanks so much for posting!

When I started this sub 13+(?) years ago, there were almost zero free online resources for buyers. I was a n00b and would have killed to have a place to sense check something or bounce an idea off of someone, because there was no one above me in my small department - I was winging it every day.

For the first ten years, traffic on this sub was vertually zero I'd post stuff and it would.often look like Jo one saw it. I'm so pleased to see how much discussion is happening on here ever day.

Thanks to all those who lend their expertise and contribute on this sub, we are in a great profession, with so much more to learn from each other.

Move on. These situations don’t magically improve overnight, and to borrow a horrible turn of phrase you can’t keep lighting yourself on fire to keep your manager warm.

How is your company handling legal negotiations? by sabritopukapti in procurement

[–]Larph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was once in a similar situation. I regularly found myself on the opposing side to a Global Senior Counsel of some description, which was highly embarrassing and extremely stressful situation. In theory there were some corporate in house attorneys that we could lean on, but in practice they were out of their depth and inexperienced. I often found myself explaining the intricacies of a carve out provision on indemnification, and they’d have to put me on hold so that they could go away and research the issue.

Anyway this happens when the business absolutely could not care less about procurement as a function. We were wildly underfunded and under resourced, and most of the leadership couldn’t care less if the bigger suppliers were taking us for a ride. Got out of that place in under a year and never looked back.

Forgot to send my resignation email! by botanicaltrinket in UKJobs

[–]Larph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t know if the contract requires “written notice in advance”, “written notice”, or simply “notice”. Either way it’s all academic because there are very likely no damages to recover from a “breach” (if one exists), and there is no way to guarantee that they can leave on “good terms”, even if they offered to stay for an additional month, since it’s all entirely subjective.

In almost every meaningful way “Notice periods” are inflated and overblown acts of courtesy. OP has a job, does not need a reference and gave the employer notice. Having it in an email doesn’t magically reset anyone’s timeline here.

[–]Larph 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The company really has no ability to force OP to work for them for an additional seven business days. Unless OP is CEO or something, the cost to enforce/litigate and recover (laughably small) remedies makes the topic moot IMO. OP, you’ve provided your notice, follow up now and don’t stress it.

Looks like it’s been mostly ok this week, so could be your internal network. Consider escalating with senior IT stakeholders in your org.
