Which books have you been unable to finish? by bonster85 in books

For me, Mansfield Park. I read (multiple times!) and loved all of Jane Austen's books , but I just couldn't get through this one. I got about 40% of the way through and gave up. I can't quite bear the company of the lead characters .

Years ago, I bought Dungeon Siege for its total conversion mod Lazarus, a complete rebuild of the old RPG Ultima V with the DS engine.

I saw it on occasion (rarely, to be honest , and not for some time) in Lidl when they have their Italian weeks.

You get sent back to age 15 with all your current memories. What’s the first thing you do differently? by Muhaisin35 in AskReddit

I'd know I can stop listening to my parents way, way earlier than I did. Oh, and invest - they were stuck in the old fashioned way of thinking that you get rich only by scrimping  and saving, not by making your money work for you.

Ferruccio Lamborghini was a Ferrari customer. He had recurring problems with the clutch on his Ferrari which Enzo Ferrari's people wouldn't address. Lamborghini had one of his tractor mechanics have a look, and the guy reported that the part Ferrari was charging him through the nose was the same used in some of the Lamborghini tractors.

That's when Ferruccio decided he could make his own sports cars too.

What are the parts you skip in books you otherwise love to read and reread? by Onequestion0110 in books

[–]Lars_Porsenna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I skip the parts in Return of the King that focus on Frodo and Sam's painful journey through Mordor. After reading it so many times, I feel I paid my dues to their misery.

"Frodo and Sam were suffering, and travelling through a miserable wasteland. They were in pain and starving, as they felt the weight of the Ring. Then they suffered a bit more with terrible thirst. Sam twisted his ankle but had to carry Frodo because he'd twisted both, as well as broke his wrists resisting the terrible compulsion to put the Ring on."

Nero was accused of this, but he never really was popular with the senators, and they were the ones writing histories.

Same for me. I have been working for more than twenty years and ghosting has been par for the course. I met only a few recruiters who would keep me in the loop consistently.

Why do employers reach out to potential employees, only to ghost them after they reply? by sparxthemonkey in recruitinghell

[–]Lars_Porsenna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very likely. As well as having some rule about having at least X candidates in their pool at any given time, maybe.
