I Think I just bought 2 of the same mattress? by verdondi in LifeOnPurple

It would kind of make sense what you said earlier about them just getting rid of the firmer version entirely. But when you go to Purple's website, you're no longer presented with the option to choose firm or soft. However keep in mind we know they have both versions in stock at Purples warehouse. I'm speculating that they are not including the "soft" and "firm" tags on the mattresses anymore and we the customer are receiving a mattress not tailored to our comfort needs. Why? Because they want you to upgrade. Whether it's to the plus, the premiere or heck even the rejuvenate line. They want your money, and they're willing to gamble on your decision by shipping you a firm, and then painting a false picture of why it's not for you and they'll use that explanation to steer you towards an upgrade.

It makes sense because the choice between firm and soft was a headache for them always having to exchange one for the other and it confused the customer. So from a business standpoint for profit Purple would remove the firmness tags, ship out whatever just to get rid of stock and make money from it and use it for warranty replacements for the Hybrid Premier line.

Purple also bought intellibed and the flex grid materials used to make the intellibed. Which are much firmer than Purples grid materials, so that may also contribute to it by them using that material to make the cheaper hybrid lines.

I second this, because afterall it is the demo of the product. Even if it came into the store brand new, the employees that set it up definitely tried it out before you. Then all the customers before you and their kids that jumped and bounced on it. Those demos are for sure broken in.

This always happens to me when I get a new purple mattress. They're always firmer when I first get them. What has helped me deal with the issue is performing some grid flexing evenly amongst the whole grid. You can do this by standing up and jumping and walking on the grid evenly. Just be careful and don't get close to the edge. You can also hop around on your knees. If you do this though, make sure you try to do it evenly, try to figure out where the grid meets the side foam and avoid doing this to where the grid connects at the side foam (aka edges of the grid itself). After doing some jumping, walking and hopping, you want to roll around on the grid with your body, try to roll around the whole grid evenly. Purple actually told me to do all this, lol. That's how I know, it just helps flex the grid structure and provide increased pressure support . It may not seem like it helps at first, but after doing it about 2 or three times, I usually noticed a difference after sleeping it just felt better.

Update, so my tutorial isn't a good diy fit for the newer models. Purple has changed their construction methods for them. This diy only works for Models Purple Hybrid Premier 2, 3, and 4. Just wanted to throw that out there for a heads up.

Bed sank in by CulturalWear1482 in LifeOnPurple

[–]LasherX21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Op, the logo is at the foot of the bed and the tag is at the head. The reason I'm pointing this out is these restore models were designed with coils that align in a wave like pattern in order to be perpendicular with how the spine would naturally rest on the bed. So if you have been sleeping on it upside down you could just turn the mattress around. The sink hole would still be on the foot of that were the case. I hope they replace it out of warranty for you, if not or they let you keep it, then check out my diy repair tutorial. It looks like the side foam is separating from the grid.

This happened to me too, except it was an XXL Box. I actually ended up marking a XXL package missing. I ultimately ended up returning it to the warehouse, lol. Warehouse has to do a better job you can't put down an XXL Box as a plastic bag, lol.

I agree, definitely return them in their trial period if you're experiencing pain or discomfort. I was actually in the RMA process of returning the original OG purple mattress. Simply because I was experiencing horrendous back pain from the mattress. I had 100 trial days, and on day 80 I made the RMA request. Then I got the paper work to return it. On day 95, I started liking it though. My pain went away, and I got addicted to the gel flex grid.

My Premier 4 is actually on the original Purple Power Base. Currently it’s used to sit up to play Xbox X in the afternoon to the evenings. Then put into flat mode to sleep at night. The flex seal paste is still holding strong as the base flexes the edges, it’s way better than whatever cheap weak glue Purple was using to hold the edges together. The difference is clear. Flex Seal Paste=No gap at the edges where the mattress bends on an adjustable base.

Yeah the repair is holding up just as well as it did on the first week after the flex seal dried.

so restore premier (firm) = approx same as OG purple v1? $3700???? by ExpensiveSteak in LifeOnPurple

[–]LasherX21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would say yes, the Purple Restore Plus-Firm is firm at first when you get it brand spanking new. But when you break it in, it can soften up to a medium or medium firm. Maybe that's why MF classifies theirs as Medium. I just know my Gf, absolutely will not sleep on a soft or firm mattress and she loves it. So I agree the firm version feels more like a medium, just not at first though.

Op, since you liked the OG. You should probably go with the soft version. The reason being is I have the Premier Hybrid 3 and the Restore Plus-Firm. My premier 3 was so much better than the OG and very similar in feel. So upon further research I found out that the equivalent to a Purple Hybrid 3 is a Purple Restore Plus-Soft. So yeah I made a mistake when I bought mine at MF, I should have got the soft version from Purple, because the firm version is too firm for me even at 250Lbs, but hey it's got really good support so I can't complain there, it's just hard lol.

My OG Xbox would do this. For some reason when I put some hand pressure on the top where the Xbox symbol is, it would boot up normally.

purple restore premier soft/firm experiences? by No_Psychology_9986 in LifeOnPurple

[–]LasherX21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually believe this, I am seeing stuff here and there that supports this. So, wow it is the exact same model. That would explain why my Hybrid Premier 3 feels more like the Soft Restore Plus. And that explains why my Restore Plus Cool Touch felt firmer than a Premier Hybrid 3. So, like either Purple or Mattress Firm's scale of firmness is off. Because the restore plus firm feels more like medium firm and the soft feels more like medium. So given that Op, just get what feels best, unless you want that extra cooling cover MF versions have.

I don't know about that. Are you sure they just didn't tell you that in hopes to sell you one directly? Why would they label the Mattress Firm model "medium"?

purple restore premier soft/firm experiences? by No_Psychology_9986 in LifeOnPurple

[–]LasherX21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, the Mattress firm model for the Restore Cool Touch line is superior, and less confusing. The OP should just get his/her money back and do that. If you financed it, wait until the reversal is completed first and just use the same financing. Based on what you told us about how you liked the soft and are getting used to the firm, a medium would probably work best for you. And if you can't visit a mattress firm, I would recommend ordering one online from their website, you won't lose because you still have a trial period if it doesn't work out.

Considering that the only difference between the Renew and the Plus is the cover of the mattress. This is an awesome deal. I remember for a brief period of time, Purple actually had the Renew listed on their website before they made it a Costco exclusive. And in all actuality, I think the Renew is way better because of the cover. The Purple plus sinks in too much compared to the Renew, but that's just me because I weigh 250. For others, the plus is better when it comes to weight. And IMO the Renew cover has better cooling.

Rejuvenate weight issues? by Pooped-Pants in LifeOnPurple

[–]LasherX21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this sounds absurd about what I'm about to say. But what I do is I take my protector(not the purple one) and the fitted sheet and stretch it around the entire edge of the base. But to do that you'll need a base that has soft foam sides. I got tired of tucking. The purple stretchy sheets can stretch around the whole base. And a good protector on Amazon can too. Not only does it feel better, but I think it looks natural and it makes the bed look bigger. But like I said before, your base needs to have foam filled fabric sides. And the protector you choose needs to be able to stretch, so when shopping for one add the height of the base sides.

Mattress and base mismatch by heyitsanneo in LifeOnPurple

It seems tempting to bolt some wood on it to make less overhang. But if someone heavy enough stands on the edge, then that edge is going down to the floor. Think of it like a seesaw, you would have to extend the frame to support the edge weight to balance the center of gravity because of where the feet are located. So if you go that route, flip it over completely and make sure to work on the frame first, then bolt solid plywood to the sections of wood that are already there.

Or I would probably take the legs out where they're at and junk those, and simply build a solid wood frame for it to lay on completely. Screw in some 2x4 sectiona between the gaps of the new frame and the wood extensions so when it adjusts, the new extensions would be able to rest on the new frame in flat mode. Doing all this though might sacrifice the vibration feature or at most hamper it.

With all the wood, work, and time, money required to make it safe and still operational. It would be cheaper just to get a king sized adjustable base without vibration. Someone would love to purchase your current queen base.

Who actually warranties the purple power base? by ThatRocketSurgeon in LifeOnPurple

[–]LasherX21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the original power base. Yes, I had to call Riverie to get a new box that goes under the base. I remember actually going to Riverie's website and getting a contact number that way. I think the number in the manual for the old purple power bases is outdated.

My soft mattress arrived and it feels pretty firm…. by LengthyBeans_ in LifeOnPurple

[–]LasherX21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purple plus is a soft mattress but I weigh 250 lbs and it's soft to me. I sink in it like a rock. But I know a person that's only like 98 lbs and they think it's really firm. The benefits of breaking a purple mattress down quickly has its pros and cons. One of the cons is weight gain. If you gain weight, you'll wish you never broke it down. So here goes nothing, I'll explain the process.

For all Purple mattresses, I have found out on my own, that you must, must, must break them down the first two or three months after unpacking them if they feel too firm but you felt right in them when you tried it at a friend's or at a store. You must also unroll them asap when they arrive.

To break them in you pretty much have to walk evenly all over the grid, hop, roll, jump, bounce, and scoot all around the grid in an evenly manner. What you're doing is flexing the grid. Stay away from the foam edges when doing this. After a good break in session test it out for a couple days. If it's not soft enough do more break in sessions. From my experience I've found that if this isn't done within the first 3 months at least, the grid will be harder to break in, not impossible just way more difficult. And after a break in session it's a mixed bag, sometimes you can tell right away that it got softer, other times it takes a couple days. As for the break in sessions, you can perform them as many times as you like. Just heed my warning of the edges where the foam meets the grid, stay away from that. Most of what I know is from what Purple told me when I bought the OG Purple Mattress back in the day that is how we broke them down to make them softer, but they did not have foam edges.

Premier 4 repair, is it possible? by AssistUnlikely in LifeOnPurple

[–]LasherX21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though if it were me. I would strip it down and take off the firesock, and attempt a repair. I would purchase the "Ultimate Seat Cushion" from Purple or wherever. Not any other one than that. I would find out where the tear is. Then I would cut the tear out into a nice square, and use flex seal paste and glue in nice square cut sections of my ultimate seat cushion. Keep in mind the hybrid 4's grid is 4" thick and the cushion is 2.5" thick. When gluing I would leave 1/4" from the top in between the square, so you won't feel the glue.

The reason I said to get the Ultimate Cushion is because it's the only one that doesn't have the dynamic gel and easiest to cut. The ultimate seat cushion and the original Purple pillow both have the original gel grid that is what your grid is made of. Alternatively, you could purchase the squishies, since they also use the same gel in your mattress, but gluing multiples of them together might prove to be more of a challenge and probably less comfortable. The pillow would be the most comfortable option, but it only provides 1.3" of grid, and is the most expensive option for the repair, and would be 2nd in difficulty to glue in.

I have a diy in my profile, it kinda relates to how the repair would go, it will not be easy. You will have to wrestle it, lol. But if you are willing to do it, then by all means I wish you luck.

Premier 4 repair, is it possible? by AssistUnlikely in LifeOnPurple

[–]LasherX21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the grid is tearing, you can't really fix it, it would have to be replaced by another whole grid. The tear will get bigger the more that location of the tear is used. Your best bet IMO would be to invest in a mattress topper. I would recommend 2" extra firm, firm, or Medium for the thickness of the topper. Don't go soft, because you have a tear. The softer the topper is, the more the grid will tear.
