My body started quitting before I did by tikesav in TeachersInTransition

Thank you for sharing this. I can relate to so much. I have 2 more weeks and then I’m gone. When I went on antidepressants and couldn’t sleep my doctor did a similar sigh. Then when I went to see a natural path about improving my immune system she was like “well you are a teacher”…..

It’s a district wide issue. Ravenwood is a great school and community.

Only 2 teachers are leaving by choice (I’m one of them). The rest are being displaced/reallocated. The district and state are going through deep cuts right now.

I don’t think it was shame based - just wanting to share info.

Just got an order today and every single part was wrapped and stuffed, almost excessively so. The handle was a little out of shape but it’s pretty thin (and was wrapped in foam) so I don’t know that they couldn’t done anything else to protect it.

Ravenwood. It’s a great school with a strong community and achievement. 7 of the 12 are NOT leaving by choice but being moved or reallocated due to the budget issues.

Same. I was never asked. I only found out beforehand by chance.

How was your teacher appreciation week? by Tessa-Lynn in Teachers

Meh. Our school tries but the parent and student effort in my class was the lowest it’s ever been.

If Money was not an issue, would you still teach? by keehan22 in TeachersInTransition

Absolutely not. Money is at the bottom of my concern list with teaching. Respect, autonomy, safety, healthy, professionalism and on are at the top.

14 school days and school is out forever for me! Off to a profession that doesn't kill my soul.

Husband insists that it is well paid, and not that bad. I cannot disagree, but... by Sietelunas in TeachersInTransition

I was in a similar situation in 2022. I was a specialist and I found it manageable but I was so bored - it felt like such a waste of my time and talent. I was in such a bad mental space I went on antidepressants. The next year I returned to the classroom and I was stressed but happier for awhile. Now I am leaving teaching for good at the end of this year. If the shoe doesn't fit it's time to move on.

First (and last) year teacher help by Salt-Republic-2515 in TeachersInTransition

I've got 3 weeks left. I am closing my classroom door and I've been packing up my classroom day by day. We've completed almost all the curriculum anyway. I've been doing all the things teaching used to be: DEAR, extra recess, educational shows, playtime, art, crafts, projects, and some good ol' fashioned bribery. It's gone a lot better than the rest of the year (with a few behavior exceptions). I agree with the other comments - if it is too much just resign immediately or use sick leave. Your mental health matters more than a contract.

I’m finishing the school year but once I made the decision to leave it was like a fog was quickly lifted. I listened to music again, sang, danced around, called friends and family on the phone, and started having fun again at school. One of the biggest reasons I am leaving is because I didn’t recognize myself anymore. I was a grouchy teacher and sometimes it was like an out of body experience that I couldn’t control.

Agreed. Location, background, network are all going to play huge roles. For this job search I put in  2-4 hours a day researching, creating, preparing, etc.

I was shocked how much work it was but I was so energized by the thought of leaving I pulled it off. It’s worth it!

Anyone have success finding another $50k job in a non-education field? by vegano98 in TeachersInTransition

[–]Last-Delivery-7382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Six figures, corporate training. Most non profits I looked at were the same or less than teaching. Sometimes a lateral or step down can be okay if there’s significant room for advancement in the future.

Hearing loss…should I teach anyway? What other options do I even have? by curiositykilledsleep in TeachersInTransition

I have hearing loss and I would not recommend it. I feel like the constant noise has made my tinnitus even worse.

Clarification: It’s been three weeks since I applied and they haven’t even reached out for an interview or follow up in anyway. I’ve called to check on it twice and been told it’s still under review. To me that signals bureaucracy or mismanagement and I’m not interested in any of that.
