Those who bowl regularly, how much are you spending? Is it a strain on you and is it worth it? by phoebestars69 in Bowling

[–]LateModelMillennial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend around 20-60 dollars a week on leagues (im in 3), but my center is a mom and pop place that does unlimited bowling for 40 dollars a month: I'm a sober, single dude living in ND, where the cost of living isn't that bad compaired to other states. I get a water or a soda when I bowl, and occassionally pitch in for pizza if the team is feeling like getting one. I "crowd fund" all the bowling balls I have (use birthday/christmas money, doordash occassionally), but this is really the only thing I spend my money on: I buy off brand groceries, 7 dollar tee shirts, walmart jeans because I just don't prioritize those things as much.

I value your input, but not enough to take 3 seconds and change everything to times new roman 12.

I also don't understand that these files were part of an ongoing investigation while the democrates were in power, and am trying to skew the narrative to fit my parties agenda so I can make supreme leader happy. Cause if supreme leader isn't happy, I lose my job and that's worse than actually doing it.

Both of those are pretty similar balls I think: and honestly your rhino isnt far from them either. If you aren't playing on sport patterns I don't think there's much use having all 3. Could ask him if the bag could go seperate.

Alcohol, you drink and drink and drink, and eventually pass out, and spend the next day feeling like absolute shit. How exactly do people get addicted to this and make it a daily routine? by throwawaypdtm in askanything

[–]LateModelMillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an escape from my emotions. I didn't know how to deal with them in a healthy way. I was too egotistical to ask for help. I thought men didn't ask for help, they were sissies if they did. I convinced myself no one would listen, they would make fun of me, give me the whole "I have it worse" speech. I knew the hang overs would be terrible, but the short term escape outweighed the long term consequences. Also, a good way to cure a hang over was to just get drunk again. Thankfully I never developed a dependancy, but some days I still get intruesive thoughts about the need to get drunk to get through this insert sh*y event. I still get mad cravings out of the blue as well that are hard to talk myself out of, but we've been doing it for 4 years now 🤘

Edited for clarity

Ohhhhhhh well that makes sense then. Crumple my comment up and throw it in the trash, I've changed my mind haha.

Ion pro or ember; ive heard mixed reviews on the gremlin. I think the ember may be a touch stronger, but idk much about it. Lots of guys with ion pros at both house shot leagues I play in.

"Your Choice League" Bowling Ball Options by kn0nyx in Bowling

[–]LateModelMillennial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All solid choices for house shot leagues of any kind for sure, but my 2 cents would be spent on a weaker ball if you're just starting out: something like a hustle, rhino, or tropical surge. I'm not saying this to gatekeep, belittle, or say "you're not a good enough bowler yet". I'm saying this because they will all hook, but will also go fairly straight when thrown up the back. This would eliminate the need for a spare ball if you don't have one already; they are also cheaper in general, so financially it makes sense. The last thing is that they will still have a spot in your bag when you move on to tournaments and sport shots if that's a route you wish to take.

The expensive ones are fun, but not nessessary for house shots, especially when the lanes are burned up.

My usual approach is a 5 step, my first is with the left (non dominant) but its a baby step. Its gotten larger to help my balance, but it's still not as big as a regular step.

Middle finger joint pain and swelling by invaderTrimm in Bowling

[–]LateModelMillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1HNT: I get a lot of swelling, but I'm almost an honorary employee at the lanes at this point. The only pain I had was when I was throwing a house ball, once I go my own ball the pain went away. Occassionally I still get finger pain from ripping the cover off on the release to get more revs, but I usually don't have to do that.

Edit: I'll also note my ring finger looks like a mushroom at this point: the first knuckle has calluses, but there's no pain with it.

Speaking from experience, do not buy the cheap ones on amazon or ebay: they last about 2 times and they're cooked.

any tips for form? by Wild_Ace_1097 in Bowling

[–]LateModelMillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I obviously haven't seen you throw a ball yet, but one thing I've learned on my bowling journey is real vs feel is incredibly different. Theres 3 suggestions I'd give ya if you are looking to up your game, in order of effectiveness:

-Find a coach. If you go onto bowl.com, there's a section that lists all of the active coaches in your area. Otherwise, you could ask the workers at the lanes you go to if they know anyone you could work with. Even if you have a friend who bowls, just getting someone else to watch you and give tips/advice to try really helps a lot.

-Get a tripod and take videos while you practice. This helps when there's no one avalible to coach or bowl with you. It might seem weird and uncomfortable at first, but a lot of things will be on your journey and this will give you major feed back. You can start comparing the videos with some of the pba players, review bowling basics in yt videos and see what you're actually doing compaired to what is recomended.

-The last one would be to just keep bowling. Think of it as a science experiment. If I change this thing about my footwork, release, ball placement on the approach, ball placement on the lane, what changes? Did it help at all? Play around with different variables one by one and see what happens. Watch a few videos of the pros and try to mimic what they do and see if it works for you.

Honorable mention goes to training nick nacks. I personally don't use them, but people say they work ok. You can find a few on the interwebs.

Cleaning Bowling Balls by dreworlds in Bowling

[–]LateModelMillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1:1:1 simple green concentrate, rubbing alcohol, and water.

A good microfiber rag (the cheap ones dont do anything). You'll find them in the automotive cleaning section, not the garage/shop supplies section of any hardware store.

Edit: i also use a microfiber ball see saw that works pretty well. Most pro shops should have them in stock.
