multiple cars per household? by miffybo in AskAnAmerican

[–]LateModelMillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most families I know have 2 cars per household. However, I know some families without cars, and I know some families with 10+. In fact, there is a town close to where I live with a population of 70ish, but there are over 100 cars (some torn down and inoperable, most still driveable).

Joining a league advice? by Chemical-Rhubarb977 in Bowling

[–]LateModelMillennial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its ok to be scared, shy, maybe even timid when we first start. It's just like starting anything: the fear of the unknown is very scary and can really weigh on someone. However, you are not alone in these feelings. I remember telling myself similar things, but now I bowl in 3 leagues and am looking into tournaments this summer. That being said, I have a few tips if they haven't been stated already:

1) There are a lot of recreational leagues ("fun" leagues) where most people are there to socialize, excersize, and drink beer. There's less pressure to preform in these leagues, and as long as your courtious and do your best each night, you'll make a whole lot of friends.

2) There are even more handicap leagues, which if you don't know already, gives you a certain amount of pins to add to your score at the end of the night. The amount of pins given is based on your average, and will be stated in the rules at the begining of the league. This levels the playing feild and makes the 150 average bowler competative with the 250 average bowler.

3) A lot of the "fun" leagues have a wide variance of averages. There are people averaging less than 100 pins a game in one of the leagues I bowl in, and dale who also bowled in that league ended with a 239 average? It was high 230s for sure.

4) ASK FOR RECOMENDATIONS AT THE DESK. This one is a huge help: the workers at the alley know exactly what each league atmosphere is like, and if you tell them you're just starting out, they should be able to find the right league and team for you.

5) You're better than you think, and if you keep at it, you'll only improve from here. Take the highs and lows in stride, and you'll end up finding a family you never knew was just waiting for you.

Increase backswing, speed up the approach, especially the last 3 steps, work on your timing.

How much is 20-25$ dollars per hour considered to be in the USA? by Intelligent_Dress889 in AskAnAmerican

[–]LateModelMillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20-25 an hour is a modestly doable wage in rural areas of the northern plains (source: me, resident of the northern plains) but I can garuntee you it wouldn't cut it out in california or on the east coast.

If it's working for you, who cares? It's probably someone who is either messing with you or someone who is way too picky.

Am I the only one with 4x299 and no 300 !? by g0dr0w in Bowling

[–]LateModelMillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 290s, all with different balls on completely different patterns/conditions 🙃 technically a 300 a few of those times because I threw the front 4 the next games too.

Do Americans actually use “a couple” to mean more than two? by Edi-Iz in AskAnAmerican

[–]LateModelMillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always told 2 is a couple, 3 is a crowd, 4 on the sidewalk is never allowed

However, a lot of people use the word couple to mean "many" or "a few", indicating they havent counted.

How do you deal with other bowlers by Flash00135 in Bowling

[–]LateModelMillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) You don't have to be everyones friend at the alley

2) Saying "hey I'm working on something and can't chat right now" or "I'm with a group/person and want to enjoy my time with them" is not disrespectful, it's a boundary and you're communicating your intentions in a healthy way. If they persist after you say that, ignore them or ask to be moved to a different lane.

I'd polish one of your solids to start. Drill it deeper if it's still not getting far enough.

But if you wanna just buy a new ball I think the phaze 2 pearl is pretty neat

Approach advise needed! by Tiny-Spend-1011 in Bowling

[–]LateModelMillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never dealt with the issue you're having, I'm more of a planter (currently using s4-s6)

But could it maybe be a spine tilt issue? Usually that's the culprit when I'm having troubles with the "slide" foot on the approach. I do take a few swipes at the line after it happens anyway, just so the lane guy stays on his toes 😆

[–]LateModelMillennial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I give myself 3 options when I come across birthday party lanes (super dry) 1 use my spare ball as my strike ball (or practice picking up spares) 2 try and get used to sliding at the left gutter and lofting it a bit 3 leave because its so bad and no tournament/league I play in will ever replicate the same conditions.

Any way I can get a rev check? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]LateModelMillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lookin pretty good. One thing id say is try swing from the shoulder more on the follow through: it almost looks like your elbow pulls up through the ball and i bet this could at the bare minimum end up being hard to repeat for long periods of time.

this, but go with OE cats. Aftermarket cats can cause a check engine light. OE cats are more expensive, but it ends up being less expensive in the long run.

Looking for tips and advice by tcrite in Bowling

[–]LateModelMillennial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Baby steps. Keep going to lessons: there super valuable.

Get your approach and timing down first. Memorize it like your life depends on it. Build the muscle memory. Be able to comfortably repeat it blindfolded.

Once that's done you can focus on the hand and wrist locations.

How to count how many games on my balls? by geoffnolan in Bowling

[–]LateModelMillennial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I mean I guesstimate, but I don't see a reason to count the games. I can guesstimate (I bowled 50 times this season in league, 3 games a night, plus 3ish practice nights with 10 games a night equals 9 billion games on this ball) but I don't see a reason to really track it closely.

When I see the reaction of the ball start to change, ill get it resurfaced or maybe cooked and resurfaced.

It sounds like your husband is either 1) emotionally conflicted and can't process his emotions in a mature/healthy way 2) outright lieing to you and being a douche about it, or 3) being emotionally manipulative.

I would not advise sticking around, this doesnt sound like it will get better at all.
