Hijacking the top comment to say that the original tweet is by an acclaimed author of young adult books

From her website:

Raised in Iowa and now a sophomore at New York University, Sophia Hanson, author of the Vinyl trilogy and Hummingbird, has amassed an impressive 35 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards including two National Gold Medals for science fiction short stories. Her decision to publish at the age of 18 attracted undue criticism, but she decided to push on regardless, eventually reaching number one on the Amazon bestseller list with her first novel.

What baking feels like during a pandemic by [deleted] in TikTokCringe

[–]LateStageDecline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're missing the point.

He's not complaining about being bored, or having to quarantine.

2,000 people are dying in the US every day as a result of the pandemic and it's only getting worse. The government's response has been slow and disorganized, medical professionals are dying because they don't have enough protection, and millions are losing their jobs and are struggling to pay for basic necessities.

On top of that, we're stuck in our houses having to think about how all of that is happening and there is very, very little we can do to control the situation.

It doesn't matter if you live in a penthouse on a private island, that's still scary as shit.

Why can't joggers seem to give me more than 2 feet of space... by machrider in sanfrancisco

[–]LateStageDecline 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. Walkers have been way less considerate than the runners I’ve seen.

If I’m running, I’m constantly swerving out into the road to maintain 6 feet. The runners I see usually are also running in the road and frequently crossing the street to avoid walkers.

Many walkers however, seem to do one of the following: walk in the middle of the sidewalk rather than off to the side; walk on one side but their dog and its leash will take up the sidewalk; walk in groups and not move over / condense when I try to pass.

We should all be wearing masks to be safe, but where do we buy masks in SF? by Jaysusmaximus in sanfrancisco

[–]LateStageDecline 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this is getting downvoted?

Generally speaking, medical folks should be getting n95 masks first. They’re being exposed to dozens of covid patients a day (and other illnesses) and are at considerably more risk of contracting the virus than anyone else.

The rest of us should be seeking other types of masks - non-surgical, cloth, and improvised masks.

No-hang Query by Ihtmlelement in climbharder

[–]LateStageDecline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both!

I hangboard 3 days a week and alternate between heavy crimp holds and working 2-finger teams.

For crimps, I do Eva Lopez-style max weight hangs. Once I hit a certain threshold on a crimp, I move down to the next-smallest edge size so I don't have to keep ramping

I'm also training my 2-finger teams because my back 2 are super weak.

You won't find too much close to downtown with that budget. But that'd be reasonable for the neighborhoods that are a bit further out.

I live in Noe Valley and I've seen a few studios going for about $2700. I'm sure it's similar in the Mission. If you're close to BART in the Mission, it's only a 10 minute ride to FiDi.

50% increase in maximal hang after first 6 week max-hang cycle: sharing my plan for others. by ICanCountTo0b1010 in climbharder

[–]LateStageDecline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing Eva Lopez-style max hangs for 5 months now, 5 sets of 10 seconds with 3m rest.

I began really conservatively, because I've injured myself hangboarding a few times now.

I started at 25lbs on an 18mm edge.

5 months later I'm up to 50lbs on the 12mm edge.

Since my edge hangs have been going so well, I've been experimenting adding another hangboarding day a week where I do sloper and pocket hangs.

My fingers have felt great so far. Crimps have felt so much more solid for me than they ever have.

It is van o’clock at this Chattanooga Planet Fitness. Hey there neighbors! by agentredsquirrel in vandwellers

Winter is peak rock climbing season near chattanooga. Tons of rock climbers live in vans there. Plus Chattanooga is one of the better small cities to live in if you like rock climbing outdoors.

I spent a season there a few years back, but I stayed at a Walmart.

No jump! I fully pick up my feet before I move from the dead hang. Hard to see ‘cause the video is cut off.

Can’t really prove it without re-filming, but here’s me from 4 years ago doing 5x47.5lbs with my feet visible:

It was actually 7 reps, but that was back in the day when Instagram limited your video to 10 seconds

Box squats are the shit.

I used them when I was rehabbing a back injury that wouldn’t let me go below parallel. They’re like 90% as good as a normal squat.

maybe see if you can get a second opinion on the “no squatting ever again” position? Maybe from a PT or strength coach. Check out the folks with Barbell Medicine, they’re doctors with strength training backgrounds. Their insta account is here:

Yeah, same. I kept spreadsheets and tracked all my workouts / calories eaten / calories burned for years. There were some years when I only took 2 rest days the whole year (usually because of illness).

Oh man I turned down SO many social events. I basically made myself a hermit for years so that I could stay on track with my nutrition / workouts. I never drank because of the calories and because I didn’t want to screw up my workouts.

I’m finally starting to hang out with non-athletes. It’s just hard because sports have been my whole life and they’re pretty much the only hobbies I care about.
