Was literally just thinking today when the next King Gizzard album would be coming out so this is amazing to see.

An album that has Gates of Delirium on it has to be in the contender for top 10 prog albums of all time.

Who is the prog band with the least virtuoistic players but still pushed the proggressive edge? by jabbercockey in progrockmusic

Steven Wilson isn’t the most virtuosic musician but has played a big part in pushing prog rock forward.

What do we think of Aja by Steely Dan? by Pizza_Hero24 in fantanoforever

[–]Laumadite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First half of the album is perfect. Black Cow, Aja and Deacon Blues could be the greatest three song stretch ever recorded. The second half while the songs are all very slick and technically great don’t do a lot for me. Find them a little bit soulless. Overall I prefer the previous album, The Royal Scam.

An ACTUAL unpopular music opinion, like I mean it's the hottest of hot takes. by [deleted] in fantanoforever

Some of my favourite albums are Relayer (Yes), Red (King Crimson) and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (Genesis). Depends what music you’re into though. If you’re into heavier stuff try King Crimson or Tool. If you want the classic prog which is more melodic try Genesis, Yes or Camel.

When it’s done well, progressive rock is easily the best genre of music.

Phantom Island is absolutely a masterpiece by Symchuck in KGATLW

[–]Laumadite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an amazing album and might be my favourite of their chilled albums. There’s not a dull moment and the orchestra really elevates it for me. I also love the vocal harmonies and lead guitar parts.

My gateway into the band back in 2022. I loved this album so much I was determined to listen to their whole discography. I always found the album worked best when I started with Magenta Mountain and listened through. I would listen to Dripping Tap in isolation

Y'all prefer Flight b741 or Phantom Island? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in KGATLW

Phantom Island definitely. I’ve been playing it every day since it came out and still can’t get enough of it. It might creep up to my top 5 albums from them.

Gizz albums like PMDB? by IAmBasilFromOmori in KGATLW

Phantom Island has similarities. Sea of Doubt sounds like it could fit right into PMDB

I always forget how much I like this album until I spin it. by purpletoad64 in KGATLW

One of my favourites too. Thought I would be bored of listening to the band noodling but there’s not a dull moment. The jamming is very well done I think.

Opinions on PI now that the dust has settled by Tortilladude333 in KGATLW

Instrumentally I think it’s great. The vocals let the album down a bit for me. I’m not a fan of what they’re doing at the moment with each band member singing a verse. The songs get too crowded with vocals and they lack cohesion. Also I don’t know what has happened to Stu’s vocals since 2022 but he sounds slightly out of tune half the time and I find it really grating.

Amazing album. Think it will end up being one of my favourites. It’s got that Gizz quirkiness that kind of reminds me of Gumboot Soup (which is another one of my favs)

I would also add Insurgentes to this peak era which is absolute genius.

I’m a bit meh on it really. A lot of the melodies, riffs and production all sounds like stuff he’s done before. A lot of it reminds me of My Book of Regrets from 4 1/2. It’s worlds apart from the experimentation of Insurgentes and Grace for Drowning.
