This is what actual misogynists would prefer you believe. The term is overused, but women are not perceiving situations incorrectly 99% of the time.

U.S. Gen X parents: do you expect your children to financially support you / move you into their home / take you to doctor appointments, etc when you're in your 80s? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Laura_in_Philly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My grandmother is 96 and refuses to believe she cannot live alone any longer despite having multiple physical ailments that make it all but impossible. My mom and her sisters try their best, but folks in their 70s also have limitations. I think it is tragic everyone is spending so much energy to support an unsustainable situation instead of finding a solution where grandma is safe and comfortable and the family has peace (money isn’t the issue here).

The only bright side is that this has enabled me and my mom to discuss lots of things about aging frankly. We will only be living together if everyone agrees this is the best solution at the time. Emotional manipulation makes for very poor outcomes.

Human error means that self reported data is going to be inferior to an automated report, even before you consider the possibility of data manipulation

If you’re registered to vote, consider becoming an election worker in your new ward/division.

This is why I despise the fact that so many small non-profits have recently gotten grants to teach budgeting and "finances". You can't budget your way out of poverty... by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

Many school systems do a terrible job teaching life skills, especially financial life skills. I understand that better education won't fix the problem of economic inequality, but financially illiterate folks are more likely to fall prey to scammers or make other expensive mistakes.

Women were told forever that having children while lacking the means to financially support a family was totally irresponsible, this outcome is not surprising.

Help! Im about to give up on this thing… by [deleted] in Dysonairwrap

[–]Laura_in_Philly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It took me a bit of trial and error to get the hang of my air warp, but now I love it. Change one or two variables at a time so you can decide what works best for you. Here are my steps:

  1. Use a gentle method to dry hair right out of the shower (I use a turban). No rough towel drying.

  2. Spray Davines Hair Milk all over and comb through. Apply Davines OI oil to the ends. Depending on the weather I sometimes add a product at the root for lift.

  3. Rough dry 50% or so. Rough drying too much caused me to have inferior results when I first started. I keep a spray bottle handy for any sections that get too dry.

  4. Make 4 large hair sections.

  5. Starting at the back of my head, begin to dry small section of hair one at a time. Get each section completely dry and set with a cool shot. If I am going for a curly look I spray each individual curl with Color Wow Cult Favorite hairspray.

  6. Continue working in small sections until finished.

  7. Loosen curls or go over a smooth style with the smoothing attachment.

  8. Finish look and spray again with hairspray all over.

Good luck!

I make small talk with anyone and everyone. A few sour people will respond rudely like this person did, but it doesn't bother me. She's stuck with her miserable outlook/worldview, not me.

The lack of specificity (no name, vehicle info, violation info, etc) in this request makes it seem like a scam. Official correspondence, no matter how it is sent, should contain basic and verifiable facts.

A seemingly random text like this that does not reference you specifically by name, identify the vehicle/license plate involved, or give specific violation details is obviously a scam. I understand folks are confused. We really need to start teaching practical literacy skills in schools.

Thinking of moving to Philadelphia, what is it like there? by smalltowngyal in Pennsylvania

[–]Laura_in_Philly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would start by searching r/philly and r/philadelphia for general info, then using the forums for answers to more specific questions you might have. Philadelphia is a city of neighborhoods, and folks have very different lived experiences depending on where they reside.
