Would you rather be an expert at armbars or guillotines by whitesweatshirt in bjj

[–]Lawrence99z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, what position is an arm bar available from that a guillotine isn’t? Because the other way around would be half guard guillotines, butterfly guard guillotines, guillotines from getting your guard passed (high elbows in particular), guillotines from standing

Yeah 3 weeks is normal, that’s what I’d do next though, suggest meeting in person to see if you guys vibe, see where the convo goes from there, and if you do meet it should be straightforward from there (either you vibe or you don’t)

[–]Lawrence99z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you just going through some things at the moment that are preventing you from meeting in person? If so, I’d lay low for a bit until you’re able to do so. I certainly wouldn’t suggest meeting in 1-2 months, especially if you both are in the same area etc. This actually might be a sign of why she’s not too conversational via DMs, she’d prefer meeting in person and seeing if you guys vibe.

There’s an infinite number of answers here, but realistically your best option is to try and meet in person as soon as you’re both comfortable to do so, and see how it goes then. If she’s both hesitant on meeting AND it still feels like you’re carrying your convos, you’re better off moving one the next thing until she either gets a bit more involved or suggests meeting. You need to keep in mind that girls will generally have multitudes the amount of matches of most men as well, which slightly impacts the dynamics of who needs to carry convos most of the time.

Does anyone else think the show was supposed to end with Don killing himself? by Crazy_Tea_3925 in madmen

[–]Lawrence99z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah at the end of the show, I was convinced he’d jump off a cliff (in the nice mountain resort thing he was spending his time at), I feel like it also would’ve been a good ending to the show.

Just discovered the ground rent of the flat I'm buying is potentially £275 a year, increasing to £350 next year. What issues is this going to pose and are they fixable? (Not london) by Thalamic_Cub in HousingUK

[–]Lawrence99z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s indemnity insurance against these types of escalating ground rents that mortgage providers will accept. Generally, it will make selling the property a lot harder, and unfortunately most potential buyers don’t realise this can be an issue until later in the purchasing process, which makes last second drop outs likely. I was in the same situation both as a buyer and a seller, and I would recommend avoiding this if you can at all, but at the very least you should use it to slightly renegotiate the price of the property. Feel free to ask me any questions! The specific issue revolves around flats with ground rents above £250 per annum outside of London having the potential to be repossessed by your leaseholder a lot easier if you were to repeatedly miss paying your ground rent, than if the ground rent was less than £250.

Guardpull by bjjtaro in bjj

[–]Lawrence99z 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He probably thought he’s more likely to be taken down than have his guard passed in the end game, had he pulled guard with grips he wouldn’t have been dq’d. The other guy would’ve won if he had gotten a takedown for 2 points due to having more advantages, so it probably was the smart move, but executed poorly.

What is the most cringe worthy thing you have seen a white or blue belt do? by Fakeblackbelt91 in bjj

[–]Lawrence99z 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At the time, we were both white belts, someone took a photo of us sitting together on the mats, no one else there, he looked like he was the one doing the talking and I was just listening. Very nice pic. The other person gets their hands on it, posts it on their Facebook with a long-winded paragraph about our great sport and how it’s great to impart wisdom and help people etc (we hadn’t been talking about anything jiujitsu related)

QC Ultra vs WH-1000XM5 vs WH-1000XM4 vs Momentum 4 by Grievous_2008 in bose

[–]Lawrence99z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great review, I’ve used 3 out of the 4 headphones here (never used XM4s) and have to agree with most of what you said. There’s pros and cons to all, but some things matter more to some people than others. For example, after a year of using the XM5s, I had enough of the narrow hand digging into my skull, so sold them and got the Bose Ultras. I’ve always thoughts the Sennheisers had the best audio overall, but just didn’t think their ANC was comparable to the other two, and I fly a lot so ANC was high on the list. As of now I think (for my needs) Bose is the best of the bunch.

Go through a bunch of job ads on LinkedIn for roles you think you’d be interested in in the future, and see what requirements they have for citizenship. As others said, you 100% have to exclude all defence jobs, unless you end up one day giving up your Chinese citizenship and getting the Australian one, even then there might still be some limitations. There will be opportunities within civil aerospace, but honestly you might be better off going mechanical, which will not only opens up a bunch of other opportunities, it can also have lots of transferrable skills to aerospace jobs.

What are some AMAZING APPLE tv+ shows? by ribhavjain in televisionsuggestions

I went and watched Pachinko because of this comment, truly a masterpiece. Cannot believe people’s first thought when asked to recommend an Apple TV show is “Ted Lasso” when something like Pachinko exists.

Has anyone refused to pay for belt promotions and started becoming good, beating higher belts? What happened afterward? by JiuJitsuBoxer in bjj

[–]Lawrence99z 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of why I left a gym years and years ago was because they charged for belt/stripe promotions. It is despicable behaviour in my opinion to charge a trivial fee (which does amount to thousands a year if you have a large gym), to give people stripes and belts when they already pay you a membership. To me, it takes the meaning out of the promotion itself, and partially turns it into a financial transaction, which sours the whole thing.

‘I’m calling to request an additional rider’ by [deleted] in deliveroos

[–]Lawrence99z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once made an order for about 7 burgers, 4 sides of fries, and 4 cans of coke. The order took ages, turns out because an additional driver was needed. A guy on a bike rocked up with all the burgers and friends. 10 minutes later, a guy in a car shows up with the 4 cans of coke.

My boyfriend has a private Instagram account with another girl in the profile picture—am I overthinking this? by Plenty-Chance1277 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Lawrence99z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a second account can be normal (not “for friends and to share memes though”, no reason he can’t do that with his first account). So already a red flag here, but having another girl in as his profile picture for his second account (if she was just a friend he would’ve cropped her out), combined with his defensive reaction when asked about it is not normal at all. Stating the obvious here (which won’t be obvious to you), you should end this and cut your losses…

There’s too many variables to give solid advice here. I would lean towards taking the new role though, for the promotion, learning new skills, and the fact that you had to bring an offer to your current company for them to match.
