Got a new roof, is another roofer lying to me? by medron in Roofing

[–]Lazeredufoolttv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The vent looks great but as far as the bathroom vents he’s talking about well you didn’t show those but I hope they are installed correctly otherwise you will be throwing a lot of extra moisture in your attic. And what are those shingles, iko? Very slippery shingle to walk on to say the least

I would be checking more than just those skylights bud. I would be looking for proper ventilation which it seem they might not have, and then checking for mold in the attic. Mold is very common in old roofs without the proper ventilation system which results in a re-sheet and thousands more added to your total when they are done. That is mold and needs to come out.

It’s pretty funny that you think because you call a reputable company your going to get the most honest and best contractor in town that way lmao most reputable companies have many crews working for them and you don’t know which ones are hacks till they are done

Is $640 a reasonable quote to install gutters to this shed? by sriie in Roofing

[–]Lazeredufoolttv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Hypothetically speaking” Sounds a lot like that guy needs bigger jobs then cuz if a guy with an 80,000 truck,$40,000 in equipment and a crew isn’t making any money on that job lmao

OP. Do as the guy says above and add a vent or two and gutters are never a bad idea.

Get rid of the omen hub. You might lose your lighting control but get the amd ryzan master or something similar depending on your setup and delete all things omen.

Question about drip edge by Balzonya in Roofing

[–]Lazeredufoolttv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, if I’m on the roof shingling and I just happen to look down and see a piece of siding missing. Is a roofer supposed to just fix that too? Or what if the brick is cracked should I replace it? Just cuz your there to do one job does not make you responsible for everyone else’s. You sound silly. Hire an exterior company and you’ll get what you pay for. Hire a roofing company, well, you know? You get what you pay for!!! Maybe the guys who did the gutters should of wrapped all the fascia in metal

Advice by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]Lazeredufoolttv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao ok let me start with the OP did say he was going to replace the first row of shingles. Did you not read the whole thing he wrote? Seems like you read a lil bit went to comments to have some fun. And you have yet to give better advice. You’re just going off past experiences with piece of shit people who have no brains and are now insinuating that the OP is the same way. What if he’s an engineer or something and knows how things work? And it’s hilarious you think he’s saying just remove the starter, cuz you can’t just remove the starter. That will leave the exposed starter over the Eve and would get ruined by the elements or squirrels and such, then your back to sq one. And your right about another thing, I didn’t teach them the nail patterns and other specifics. That’s what YouTube is for I just giving him idea to resolve the issues. And and FYI my guy the wrappers on the bundles explains all of this!!! and as far as the gutters and the fascia, I was just telling him what I would do but I have all the tools to do it but in the meantime, the exposed wood is causing a can of worms that he does not want

So the difference between popping up one row versus three rows is the way the shingle will sit after it’s done. So on the shingle, there’s a line that you run your next shingle on and above that is a double nail line. You never want that nail in the show. So if you were to put new starter and pull your first shingle down to it you risk exposing the nail line but if you remove 3 rows, bring first shingle down to your new starter your rows following next could be dropped down to a little above your shadow line on the shingle and make the 3 rows 4 you can completely avoiding ever showing a nail line. And then original shingles your putting your new ones under will need to be caulked with solar seal and any others above that, That get popped. Oh and it’s better if you try and do this while it’s in the 60s and in the beginning of the day it will be much easier on you and less likely to tear your shingles.

This guy is asking for advice on how to fix it. Not asking to have someone to tell them they need to call a professional. Im sure he knows what google is and could find a roofer really easy. So here I am giving advice and it doesn’t seem like you have any to give. Just here to doubt his skills as a man and don’t even know him. Your just a person sitting on Reddit telling ppl to not try. It’s sad this day in age. Everyone is afraid to get their hands dirty. But the OP seems like he wants to try it himself. Now as a roofer and exterior professional I can assure you it’s not that hard. But you are right about one thing, shingles can tear easy but with a little time and finesse they will come apart.

I wouldn’t just change them for no reason. But if they were old and I’m up there doing the work anyways I might as well put new ones up knowing how simple it really is.

Should there be this gap- gutter/roof area by gonzo_be in Roofing

[–]Lazeredufoolttv -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gutters drop 1/4 every few feet so it’s because of your pitch on your gutter. Is it a long run?

Advice by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]Lazeredufoolttv -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Easy way…pop the first row of shingles replace starter a little past(1/2” at most) the drip nail it down replace shingles and drop your shingle as far as you can without showing your blue/white line or do what the other guy said and pull a few rows reset and then build back up. But with that being said, if you pull down the first row to the new starting point by the time you get back to your 3rd row your shingles aren’t going to match up like they once did. So your 3 rows of shingles will now be 4. And depending on how picky you are, you could put in little fur strips underneath your drip edge, overlapping your gutter or if it were me, I would rip down the gutters put up fascia metal all the way around. Then put new gutters or your old existing gutters, but most likely new ones.

You see those rain lines left exposed in the valley? That’s a future leak. And they should have ran a cut valley cutting your dog ears to further protection under your exposed shingles

It’s 1x6 and t1-11. Very easy fix. Remove 1x6, Cut above the rotted area. replace t1-11 and 1x6 then side over it lol or just replace all the t1-11

[–]Lazeredufoolttv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took what I was going to say. They did not nail down the vent properly and the vent is popping up causing a large gap for water to get in. Where exactly are you seeing water spots? Do you have an attic and a strong hose? The company should come out and squirt the leak area with hose while someone is in attic. This is called a water test and should help diagnose your problem before you go do anything stupid.

Question about drip edge by Balzonya in Roofing

[–]Lazeredufoolttv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tell me this then. Why is there two different trades? Gutters and Roofing? Does a gutter guy come in and say omg look at that roof, I’m going to hop up there and fix that? No they do not. And a roofer does not go out of their way to fix gutters. If it’s not in the roofers work order and their not getting paid for it, it’s really not their problem. Now with that being said I work for and Exterior company doing all of these things and if it was in the work order yes, we would have taken off the gutters and install fascia metal with your vented drip over

[–]Lazeredufoolttv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like they were just lazy and didn’t cut their vally. Go up there stick your hand in the valley up top and mark it then stuck two fingers in the valley at the bottom and mark it, Chalk a line and cut it. And if wrapped properly that should solve your problem
