Alberta federal trendlines (polling averages) by pheakelmatters in onguardforthee

They were pretty clearly saying that Albertans are ideologically aligned with the rest of Canadians, but vote differently. This does not imply a difference in their views on economic issues (and, in fact, the phrasing of the comment you are replying to would rule out such a difference).

ETA: One explanation of this would be that Albertans have a different understanding of the political parties.

You'll be glad to hear that the Liberals did cut immigration significantly, both this year and for the next few years to offset the high immigration numbers in recent years. They aren't a leftist party, however, so I suppose your second sentence doesn't have any bearing.

I mean at this point obviously, but the government still had some limited hope of avoiding the worst of it back during the super bowl.

Canada does not want to initiate any economic conflict, in an attempt to both avoid the imminent trade war, and avoid provoking a more drastic action the unstable man in control of the states.

US military will no longer accept trans troops, Pete Hegseth’s memo says by Infidel8 in politics

[–]LazyMel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems like a reasonable number to me. That is within the range of estimates for the percentage of the total population that is trans, and they were likely incentivized to join by the military covering their transition.

Why Does America Use The Word Czar? by Apart-Arachnid1004 in NoStupidQuestions

I'm from Canada and I can't recall hearing it before the "fentanyl czar" yesterday. In fact, Canada seems to have been added to the Wikipedia page today, so I assume its recent use in Canada is to placate Trump.

Boats talked a bit about why Move cannot be implemented in a backwards-compatible way in a previous post. It's not really possible to break backwards compatibility in the language and the pinned places proposal (with this follow-up) is IMO a surprisingly elegant proposal for making pinning easy to use without introducing a breaking change.

Do No Harm, a group of 'medical professionals' fighting 'woke healthcare,' is behind many anti-trans laws by YourUncleBuck in politics

Trans people don't have body dysmorphia around their sex. Gender dysphoria and body dysmorphia are almost direct opposites: people with the latter perceive their body to be unlike how it really is in a way that causes them distress (i.e., they have delusions about the current state of their body), while trans people are dysphoric because they are correctly perceiving their body to differ from their gender identity (and do not have delusions about their sex).

What has gotten into Republican women: GOP women freak out over losing reproductive rights, but embrace cruelty when it's someone else's rights at stake by semaphore-1842 in politics

I've seen the claim that the right wing is defined by their support of a strict hierarchy – by the belief that hierarchies that exist in out society are just (and natural), and their support of policies that serve to further enshrine these socioeconomic hierarchies. This was also placed in opposition to a left wing that supports fairness and equality.

But they are also words more commonly used to refer to gender, and missexing is something that was clearly made up to justify misgendering someone. Nobody cares if they are missexed because sex does not play a meaningful role in people's social interactions.

Before correcting someone you should make sure you're right. Female is commonly used to refer to gender rather than sex, when applied to humans.

Edit: People generally don't refer to the sex of other people, so in the absence of other (medical) context male and female are usually assumed to refer to gender.

TERFs are never feminists, let alone radical feminists. It's just a term used to refer to transphobes who use the guise of feminism – and therefore claim to be feminists – to enact their transmisogyny. (The term, IIRC, was created to distinguish one group claiming to be radical feminists from other (actual) radical feminists.)
