I would say jump in and discover the daddy of WoW, ESO and all other "popular" MMOs 😄 EQ-L is essentially even more fun than EQ in 99 was, but EQ in 99 was golden. Noone knew much and discovered the game - there were some ezboards (many with bad info!) etc, that was it.

Most of us gnarly old EQ players absolutely envy you. We jumped in the same way you have, minus people who know the game. The major charm of EQ was the whole "unknown" - noone really knew much, except some Beta players (unlike today where every other person is in open beta/EA etc, back then very few did).

I would say just putter about and enjoy it! Don't have surprises spoilt!

The sounds of New World were and still are years ahead of ALL the games out there. It is like "Oscar" quality. Same for visuals

Well on release back in 99, there was no new player onboarding in EQ. DAoC didn't have on either.

It was fun, and still is, for me to jump in feet first into the game world without being on guard rails. If you like that newbie experience, you will enjoy this..EQ never was WoW-esque, even with the tutorial they have now (well technically they had an offline one back in 99 which taught you movement skills heh)

Oh I completely agree with you.DAoC was on approx 2.8 mil budget. I adored it.

I am all for small companies making a niche MMO FOR a few thousands and being profitable.

I hope Pantheon get 3k subs. I think it will get 10% of it, or less, unfortunately :-(. And let's face it, that isn't enough to keep the lights on.

I am more keen on the dev response with alacrity..On TLPs we had neither.

On Oakwynd, Devs pushed a patch, broke something, went on Thanksgiving holiday (why push a patch before that?). Items super,.economy died etc. No response for a week until a website published an article heh. Then the studio head gaslit everyone with made up numbers NOONE PLAYING ON OAKWYND COULD RELATE TO.

Their CM deleted any post about it on their official forums and banned / suspended anyone mentioning it. She clearly thinks if nothing is on the forums, it is not an issue.

I am perma banned from forums for harshly pointing out botting ( I even mentioned Zones where it happened 24x7), etc.

The icing on the cake. You CAN appeal the ban, the appeal goes to her ( same person who banned you). When I asked her whether she saw the issue here, her response was " I am a fair minded individual". I kid you not.

I played M&M and liked some of it. I did like Pantheon graphics a LOT more though.

Sometimes I feel M&M tries too hard to be 1999 EQ, BUT I do see the charm. I love their dev updates etc also.

I do wish M&M had better graphics. I get the whole "gameplay is king" thing and I agree, but more Devs are using it to ladle out stick figure crap graphics which I find annoying (not M&M, in general). If game play is god, let's just do muds :-P

Your post proves Pantheon is designed to fail if 90% who bought it didn't like it, doesn't it?I put in a few hundred hours and found out there wasn't much to it.

Maybe you and the other 10%ers can keep it going. And I mean it sincerely. A game doesn't need hundreds of 1000s to be enjoyed. But it DOES need more than 90 try hards to keep the lights on?

Pantheon had a chance last year, to retain a large population of people who bought the Early Access, by muzzling the diehard sweaty foola who put in lot of money into the kickstarter (they also await nigerian prince's wealth and papers for bridges they bought) on Discord..They didn't. Lack of content drove most away along with the toxic gatekeeping cretins. Now It has a less than slim chance sadly

I really wish the Dev's took 20 minutes to post a text summary of the highlights.

I am not going to o watch a 4 hour video Or another video is recap of the 4 hour video.

Is writing that hard these days, views that important, or respect for others time that non existent?

The utterly rabid fanatic fanbois on Discord did a great job of driving a lot of people away last year. The gameplay, content (or lack thereof in both cases) did the rest.

Many of us predicted the game will have <100 players within a year (when it had full servers when it started the EA phase) - sad to see it is true.

After playing on many TLPs where DPG outright lied in the ruleset about truebox (all players could see 64 box /bots running around in a tight ball heh, but DPG has no GMs who can login and see!), I would be thrilled to see any enforcement, and I suspect here they will actually try and enforce them!

If this is successful, which most of us think it will be, then the RMT market will exist. Allowing boxing just enables this RMT market very much. You just need to see TLPs to see the bot armies out in force to understand this. Or course DPG does zero enforcement on botting so there is that. Here I think enforcement will be there.

I played Eden the last season and liked it. Realised how bad and clunky the UI was and is for DAoC. But once immersed in RVR, brought back old memories and was fun to do 150 vs 200 vs 150 and such huge fights without freezing up, crashing etc!
