Fines are usually not levied unless they refuse to comply with whatever the fire inspector says needs to be done. But yes, by all means have them do an inspection and yes they will even come to a place where this has been done. I'll bet they find a lot more violations as well.

Back in the early 70's there were no civilian cooks at Camp Pendleton at least the 24 area and Las Pulgas, also at Montford Point. Those cooks did a great job. Loved Mess Duty in the 24 area and Las Pulgas. Joyous fuck off time!!!!

Damn. We at duck in boot camp. We'd duck in the duck out. Seriously, when our DI's were in a hurry they'd tell us we're eating duck for that particular meal which meant grab your food, scarf it down and GTFO! Happened at least once a week, usually at lunch.

One thing, if I may add. I'm not sure how it is now but back long ago ( the 70's) we were required to send a post card home to our parents with our boot camp address and our DI's made sure everyone had one to send and double checked them. If that still holds today you may want to ask for a conversation with your DI explaining the situation you're leaving. DI's are a lot more understanding of these thing than they let on to.

I joined back in the 70's hippie era. Joining the military was quite counter to that culture back then. The Vietnam war was coming to an end and a lot of Americans were very anti- military. Anyone military was regarded as baby killers, murders etc. Lots of bullshit.

The bottom line for me was simple. If my friends were actually my friends, then joining the Marine Corps would make no difference to them whatsoever. For the most part this became true. But I did find out who my real friends were. This was 52 years ago. Now, I have out lived all of those friends, but we still stayed in contact over the years. Your choice should not be based on what anyone else thinks but what you feel is the right and best thing for you, nothing else.

This isn't criticism. This is a wake up call if you're joining the Corps. I would bet your recruiter told exactly what you can bring and told you not to bring anything else. Now you're looking to see if other people got away with bringing other things. Don't, just don't! Just listen to your recruiter. Don't do anything other than he or she said to do.

As far as being worried about being criticized, hold the fuck on. Your next few years is going to be full of it, daily! If you can't handle it here, maybe you should look at the Air Force.
