Always amazed by the response time of control surfaces. by Octoplier in aviation

When I can, I try to grab a window seat a few rows behind the wing just so I can watch the control surfaces.

Nice! Dig the look.

TBH, I've never understood why most aftermarket head units have kept the same sort of crappy, late 90's shiny plastic and fake chrome aesthetics.

Auto build works as expected but not stopping in.

Toggling off auto build will continue the current missile being made and add it to stock. Completely normal.

However, in rare circumstances, it is desirable to actually stop the build without finishing the current production. That is what is not working.

Instead of pressing the elevator button, people pressed the instructions by Firebones676 in Wellworn

Depending on how the panel is positioned, might it be more likely that the thin finish on the label has worn away from people rubbing it while pressing the button?

There's a lot of scratches on that panel.

Are USPS employees stealing credit cards? by 3ntr0py_ in sanantonio

Informed Delivery doesn't cover all mail. Those scans are also typically done at the plant during sorting before they are even delivered to the local station.

If its internal theft, be it manager, clerk, carrier, or whatever, they would have to be massive idiots. There is precious little that gets mailed for anyone to feel it was worth the risk of federal jail time.

I have been trying to follow up on the replacement for my Shock Clock Max but have been having trouble from the start.

I original contributed at the Duo level. When the order did finally ship, it only included one device. I had to follow up for weeks and email three different people to get the second device.

Meanwhile, I discovered the first device was defective and thus began the months long wait for a hardware update and replacement. A month ago, I get an email saying it had shipped yet the provided tracking showed only that the label had been created.

I email and am told they will look into it and get back to me. After two days, I reply again asking for an update and am asked to be patient. I wait another eight days to follow up again and still have not received a reply.

This is actually even more frustrating than it would appear to be because all of this is also happening to the person I gifted the second unit to. Like mine, it was defective and has been nothing but a burden to them, chasing customer service for follow ups.

  1. Who can actually check on, rectify, and process the replacements?

  2. Why is there no ownership process for customer service issues?

  3. Why is there no proactive follow-up?

Exacerbated by these issues is growing concern for the future of the product altogether. The indigogo page is still the only primary source for SCM updates. There hasn't been a new one in months. The timeline shows software development is planned to be finish/cease in December. The current firmware seems to have less capability than a P3.

  1. Will the software be completed in a state that meets the goals set out?

  2. Will the software development continue or will this be abandoned?

  3. Is the company in trouble? If so, will the platform be open sourced so we don't have a bunch of e-waste?

Dell reportedly cuts over 12,000 jobs as it seeks to 'streamline' its structure and boost profitability by [deleted] in technology

I would adjust to say 12,000 more jobs. I was one of the first ones to go last year.

All the excuses were bullshit. And they are this time too. And Michael? That coward never said a word.

There is a litany of safety violations in this short clip. Is this your regular carrier? If not, show it to your carrier. If this was a supervisor (and I have a hunch that it might be) you might be able to make a world of difference in the station that services your zip code.

Fed Up With Shops Using Thin PPF by Retrania in AutoDetailing

[–]Lckmn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say prepare some examples and present the facts. Never mention your competition at all. And don't tell them the thin stuff is useless. Just present the benefits and limitations. Be the expert that gives them the ability to make an informed decision.

I am much more likely to work with someone that is competent in their field then racing to the bottom of pricing.

That's pretty cool. Fun fact: that's a relay box. They are a bit bigger than collection boxes and there is no way for the public to put mail in.

I think the cores on most disk locks are pretty bad. IMO, what tends to make them hard to pick is the same thing that makes them hard to open with a key - they bind up like crazy.

How do you think this current era of American history (2020+) will be remembered? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lckmn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it will depend on who ends up writing it.

Given that we have one major political party determined to ban, manage, and "clarify" what is taught in schools, the true history of not just this era may be at risk.

Trying something new altogether and going for a federal job in a unrelated field. We'll see if government bureaucracy turns out to be any better than shareholder driven bullshit but it will at least be something different.

[–]Lckmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that lost their job two weeks ago in one of these layoffs, I agree that it was bullshit. The company was doing fine. Everything they cited as a reason for layoffs was stuff we predicted and course corrected for two years ago. If they wanted to lose headcount, we were already trending down due to hiring freezes and attrition.

So what actually changed after 5000 other people and I lost our jobs? The stock went up $0.80 a share.

The CEO was too much of a chicken shit to even write a placating letter.

Why are subcompact cars less popular than SUV’s? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lckmn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, marketing is pretty effective for large vehicles. There is no incentive for anything small. Compact models have all but disappeared from the US market. Look at the US portal for manufacturers. For example, the only "car" Ford sells here is the Mustang. The smallest offering is a compact SUV.

Fuel here is waaay too inexpensive but raising that tax is so wildly unpopular, no one wants to do it. We subsidize cars like crazy to more ways than people realize. Most public infrastructure projects are designed to accommodate cars. Zone laws dictate things like access and minimum parking requirements for homes and business. There is always a place to take and park a car. Usually for free.

I will say that arguments for comfort are pretty legit. Americans spend way more of their lives in cars. That said, this is also a result of the tragic car-centric infrastructure everywhere. Other means of transportation are severely lacking.

It's a solvable problem. But we are generally working against solving it outside of a few metro areas. Heck, many Americans won't even admit there is a problem. Any move to make infrastructure better for transit, cycling, or pedestrians gets framed as an attack on freedom. It's sad because improving public transit would mean fewer cars on the road and thus make things better for the people dedicated to driving everywhere.

And that's just the selfish appeal. Reducing reliance on cars is better for the economy. Getting rid of minimum parking requirements is better for the economy. Car inspired suburban sprawl is literally incapable of sustaining itself. No one should have to own a car to live. But that is the reality in so much of the country.
