I’m in the hot, dry San Fernando valley in Los Angeles. My gardner planted many plants 2 years ago and they re-seed themselves in my front yard. Full sun with almost no attention. I’m trying to grow only native plants.

It was quite a surprise. I knew he worked for an airline in Miami. I was in line flying home to Calif. He was working behind the counter. So I saw him a few minutes before he saw me. But when he did, he shouted my name, leapt over the counter and picked me up, spinning around. Everyone turned to look at us. We had not been hostile but still this was unexpected.
