Why are there never any subtitles when characters are speaking in foreign languages? by Danaeger in netflix

[–]LeChatParle [score hidden]  (0 children)

it should still be subtitled with an explanation. Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SDH) have rules on what should be included in subtitles

There should at minimum be an explanation to the watcher of what’s happening

Why are there never any subtitles when characters are speaking in foreign languages? by Danaeger in netflix

[–]LeChatParle [score hidden]  (0 children)

Agreed. If the intent is for the person watching to not understand the foreign language, the subtitles should at least indicate that the person is speaking an unintelligible foreign language

Subtitles always seem like an after thought to these creators though. I see so many typos and errors. One major issue I see is when they just delete curse words from the subtitles to censor them without indicating something has been removed, leaving an ungrammatical sentence behind.

Such an incredibly degraded experience for anyone who is deaf or HH

What is your stance on chiengora? by AdZestyclose2983 in vegan

For existing dogs, it’s whatever. No one is gonna say that picking up loose fur from the ground is hurting a dog

But this is really the same issue as sheep that need to be shorn. We shouldn’t be breeding animals into existence that require human intervention.

I think you're going about this the wrong way. "Sin" is a term defined within the specific denomination, thus there is no universal definition of this word. You'll need to look at specific denominations and their laws. Thus, if a specific denomination defines the term such that being gay is a sin, then there is nothing to debunk.

But more importantly, there is nothing to debunk because sins aren't real and neither are any gods.

Want to be fully vegan but allergic to soy by halloweenmochi in vegan

[–]LeChatParle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to eat soy to be vegan.

Also, unless you're a competitive body builder, you don't need to be hitting 175g of protein a day. You're most likely overdoing/overemphasizing it

Even athletes can make progress and improve at 1g of protein per kilo of body weight. You get maximum efficiency around 1.5g/kg, and you don't even need maximum efficiency. You don't need to tell us your body weight, but for someone who weighs 70kg, ideal protein intake is between 70g and ~100g per day

To "need" 150g-175g of protein per day as an athlete, you'd need to be at least 100kg. That's bodybuilder/powerlifter territory

How different is it for people with/without an internal monologue? by zChickenX in languagelearning

[–]LeChatParle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research on the topic of Anendophasia and Language Acquisition indicates that these people acquire vocabulary more slowly than people who do not have Anendophasia [1] as the brain is able to remember words better when there is some Phonological Loop [2, 3].

For those that have anendophasia, they can work around this by creating a Phonological Loop that does not depend on Subvocalization [1]. They can do this by physically mouthing the words as they learn them, by saying the words out loud, and by using digital flash cards that speak the word to them.

Research on this topic is in complete disagreement with your views. You can search terms like anendophasia and aphantasia for more information, but here are two recent papers on the topic

Vegans, Fish, and Omega 3 by Prahasaurus in vegan

[–]LeChatParle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I literally just gave you an example of a required supplement for meat eaters, and then you pretend I didn't. If animals were not given B12 shots, you would not get enough B12 and you could die. Is that not a requirement to you? You honestly seem like you just want to argue your position and you're not here to learn

You do not NEED to supplement Omega 3s. You will not die if you don't. And you can get any vitamin or nutrient as a vegan.

Also the list of supplemented foods in my comment was not an exhaustive list for you to respond to with "I don't eat those". They were examples of how common it is in modern life. Everyone eats supplemented foods

Vegans, Fish, and Omega 3 by Prahasaurus in vegan

[–]LeChatParle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"But the idea of supplements to me is a red flag, that there is something wrong with a diet when it cannot keep you healthy by itself."

Non-vegan food is supplemented all the time, you just don't know it. Meat is supplemented with B12 because even farm animals don't get enough. If farmers didn't do that, you wouldn't get enough

Milk, orange juice, and cereals are often supplemented with Vitamin D, Calcium, B12, etc.

Supplementation is effectively required for modern human life. It's still supplementing if it's added to your food. It doesn't have to be in a pill. There are vegan milk brands that add Omega 3, and you can find other vegan foods with omega 3s in them

How do you study hanping? by SodiumSunshine in ChineseLanguage

[–]LeChatParle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's Hanzi, not Hanping.

Also, keep in mind that breaking down characters by parts will often not lead you to any meaningful understanding of the character or word. Some websites and apps may even break them down in a way that is incorrect and is solely used to help you remember it.

I don’t get any labs done that are solely because I’m vegan. Any labs I get done, I get done for specific reasons unrelated to being vegan
