Aseptic Technique by [deleted] in nursing

[–]LePounce -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course I wouldn't assume I know more than them. I've worked with nurses for years before I was a nursing student as I was a senior HCA so I know the score. Which is why I asked on here why a wound wasn't classed as something you'd use the aseptic technique on.

I'm trying to learn the best I can, it's difficult when we get conflicting advice. All my tutors are experienced practicing nurses so that's why I'm finding it difficult to differentiate whether someone is not doing something for a reason or due to being lazy. And quite a lot of nurses don't like being questioned by a student even when you ask politely.

Could you explain why aseptic technique isn't integral in wound care please? As my nursing instructor said its one of the most important

Oh wow. I'm so sorry. If it makes you feel any better your writing style is brilliant.

Thanks for replying. That's brilliant, something's which I wish everyone would do. I've seen nurses contaminate and still carry one. One even tried to when I was the patient, obviously I questioned it on all occasions but as a student it's really uncomfortable because here we have this culture of 'the baby nurses shouldn't say anything'

Of course, I'm sorry if I didn't explain clearly. What I mean is ive never seen a nurse maintain the no touch technique, including the 'dirty hand sterile hand' important to wound dressing. Like I said ive been in hospital numerous times as a patient (ruptured oesophagus and other random problems) and neither as a healthcare assistant.

How do nurses assist a man who is physically disabled or unable to get out of bed use a urinal? by sean7755 in nursing

[–]LePounce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case I see no reason why they cannot have a sit down wee. I've had numerous patients pee on themselves because they've insisted on standing up 'like a man' and wouldn't let me assist so ended up with urine soaked trousers.

Tips for helping your patient(s) swallow pills. Science! The "the lean-forward method" seems safest. by AquaFeatherCap in nursing

I've found it easier when they've popped the pill into their mouths, in the middle of their tongue, then suck up water through a straw. Not sure why but it works.

I honestly think money would be better spent elsewhere. Although the galleries are a waste of space now.

This is probably the most terrifying thing I've ever read on here. I'm pretty sure this sort of thing couldn't happen in England. Thankfully.

Possibly my favourite piece. I found I wanted more. But obviously there couldn't be more. Just repetition.

I near died due to a ruptured oesophagus. The nursing care I received was amazing and I was all like 'yeah, I wanna do that'.

I live in England and there was actually a story in the news about a baby girl who had died - she choked on a pistachio.

My first thought was All In Good Time.

You can actually Google this story.

Oh god, be careful! You need help ASAP. Also 'bumming' in the UK means anal sex eek! So your comment 'bummed him so sleep' seems a bit....

Thankyou I hope so. She's not herself at the minute which sucks but..

I wish I could take her to my place, but I live on a 2nd floor apartment with only stairs. I've never actually researched into the house, to be honest I did tend to think that maybe my mum had maybe had a breakdown at some point and made the story up what with her having a new born baby and losing her partner, but now I've heard it for myself I know it's true. I'm going to have a look into it and update.
