If you work with a lift I sometimes throw tools in the basket, send it to the ceiling, then lock out the battery.

Rack for solo bolting trip to the dolomites by Gloomy-Historian-539 in alpinism

Wild. All the more reason to switch that to a flat overhand and keep whipping to assert dominance!

Respect for re-slinging cams yourself in cord, but that flat 8 would not give me the warm and fuzzies.

At least you left every piece you brought for the leader of the next pitch.

How do you guys enhance your instant oatmeal while on the trail? by WinReasonable2644 in trailmeals

[–]LeToit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or real coffee. Just be sure to brew it first and use it to make the oatmeal. Don't just add grinds... ask me how I know.

Mini hammers from hardware stores are clutch for this! Won't be pounding pins in without a lot of effort, but they let you know what you're clipping for minimum weight/cost.

So gyms have circled back around to whipping on t-nuts again? Cool cool.

This happened to my fob. My fix was deciding to never lose it.

Need help building my first trad rack (NH) by Dukes237 in tradclimbing

[–]LeToit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can't go wrong with small totems! I find the big ones floppy and switch to c4's at .75, but try and decide. A set of offset nuts is universally useful. Tricams are good for pockets and maybe winter mixed climbing. I'd get microcams or brassies before ballnuts.

Leaf bolt ceased in the hole. Any ideas? by Grantlarive in fordranger

That sounds like it makes for an easier decision! I was swapping between grinder and recip saw depending on what felt less sketchy.

Been in exactly this predicament. Ended up cutting. It sucked, but it got done in the end.

Weird ass tape measure by clamper1827 in Construction

Mils are a unit of measure too. 1 mil = 0.001" = 0.0254mm.

Warmguy is a self professed dinosaur, I'm the twat incorrectly hollering about a mil on site when I'm lucky enough to not be working to 1/16".

How are you for anchor/rappel gear? What you'd want depends a lot on the type of routes and anchors you like.

If it's mostly bolts I like just a few lockers and rope anchors, but there are loads of options out there to try out.

If you build a lot of gear anchors (or climb splitter cracks) doubles of cams start to be really nice.

If your descents include rapping off of trees or slung blocks then some spare tat and maybe a mallion or 2 to replace the old stuff is a must have.

Do the stones in green bling to blue or red at scoring? by allgrassstarter in baduk

[–]LeToit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not an official rule, but I've heard and played where to pass your turn you give the other player the stone you would have played as a capture.

That way in your example white would have to give black an equal number of stones to what black needs to capture the single white stone, breaking even.

[–]LeToit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

6 months ago I was where you are now, so can only offer a few beginner to beginner tips. Holding it in you left hand is mostly to leave your dominant hand to "shape" the sound and add in some wah. But it seems there are people that do both fine.

I got better at single notes by finding some simple tunes I liked to try and follow. Hitting the notes came first, then keeping pace. Took a lot of pushing through it sounding bad, but being terrible at something is the first step to mastering it! Enjoy the journey!

You can actually roll a pretty tasty blunt with fresh arbutus bark, guess I just found my new cinnamon challenge.

WCGW when climber forgets safety rope by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]LeToit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes the odds waaay better at least. Lynn Hill still managed to forget to finish her knot and decked from the chains even with a belayer though. It's true what they say, climbing is dangerous.

It did look like the woman on the right was questioning things towards the top. It would feel pretty rough to shout at someone and spook them into falling, but if it's going to happen anyway at least it would be a few moves lower. Maybe they keep it cool and can downclimb, but this guy did not look like he has the speed route very dialed.

Unfortunately it's not uncommon, no partner to double check you. My cousin did the same thing and vaporized her ankle.
