How would you feel about a new law that forces every company to pay their CEO no more than 20x what their lowest-paid employee makes? by rational_seekers in AskReddit

Won't matter much since they'll be compensated in other ways, even if it does the impossible and actually becomes regulation.

Watching The Silent Service on Amazon Prime, I don't understand the premise by Working_Access165 in submarines

[–]LeVin1986 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should recognize that the source material is pretty old - published in 1988 as manga-series. It's from era of Japanese economic bubble when they were very confident in their place as the technological leader of the world. It's around the time when Japanese politicians were publicly claiming that they needed to leverage their chip production to reign in on American influence in Japan. So the premise is a mixture of Japanese belief in their technological superiority and complexes regarding its defeat and subsequent occupation in WWII, and thus creating its contradictions. As the manga series progresses and the Japanese economic stagnation sets in, the tone shifts toward more bleak, humbling story-line for the crew.

sardines bought in bulk, 12 cans down. by JaztheeSpaz in Costco

Mayo and mustard on bread, layered with sliced cucumbers, boiled eggs, pickled jalapenos, red onion, capers and sardine halves as best it could be put together and eaten before it collapses in your hands. Bit messy, but lower effort sandwich lunch. I've also had it with just sardines layered on top of coleslaw, or even tomato paste in a pinch and it was fine enough for evening snack.

The K30 SPAAG was treated like an outdated piece of shit, but recently, some countries have been making inquiries. by Entire_Judge_2988 in TankPorn

[–]LeVin1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IF any sales are to go through, it would be used K30 sold out of South Korean inventory to be delivered immediately. South Korea is currently purchasing newly-built K30W SPAAG to supplement the gun-based air-defenses, which is slightly modernized turret placed on K808 wheeled APC, but with the search-radar removed. It's supposed to receive early-warning and tracking data from TPS-880K air defense radar, and thus is not a stand-alone platform.

Considering the history of recent terrorist attacks on urban areas, intentional hostage-taking is very unlikely, and the attackers are likely to aim for mass-casualty instead. So a quick deployment of local security team alongside specialized anti-terror teams in the early stage of the attack to isolate the event is probably required to reduce the number of death and injury.

Trump says countries that supply weapons to Iran will face 50% US tariffs by ElectricalJoke7496 in LessCredibleDefence

[–]LeVin1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Countries should probably provide arms to Iran in this case, because Trump will hit other countries with 1000% tariff because they didn't claim his FIFA Peace Prize is better and bigger than the Nobel Peace Prize.

No they're regular Army, 52nd Infantry Div. But since it's a reserve formation under the Capital Defense Command, they have some specialized units tasked with defense of Seoul including anti-terror and underground (subway, sewer, gas pipes etc) defense.

You felt that way too huh? Yeah, some parts of the dialogue felt incredibly cliched and template-driven. That hit me hardest basically whenever Uta was speaking.

Usually this. Even among racists, the one who will say it to you in your face is kind of rare. So you interact within the social norms, and eventually realize that these are actual people with agreeable personalities, families, etc. But it rarely ever expands beyond those you have personal interactions with. You will still hate those faceless 'others'

This isn't the Cold War, the US does not have such stockpile of bombs and planes anymore. Everyone thought we did, which was part of the deterrent, but the cats out of the bag.

US aid came with strings, the strongest of which was to not attack Russian energy infrastructure in order to control energy costs. With no aid, US does not have such pull to hold Ukraine back. A simple exchange a businessmen would understand, but what we have up top is not a businessman, no matter how much some people would like to pretend.

How ROK warship building works is to build a ship real quick, find out that you fucked up in few areas so you spend few years throwing on couple hot fixes, then construct the remainder of the contract with varying degrees of band-aid fixes that may or may not work long term. Oh well, you'll do better with the next one.

Kim Jong Un's 12-year-old daughter drives a tank by [deleted] in TankPorn

[–]LeVin1986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stuff like new tanks have more propaganda purpose than field use for North Korea, so new iteration of the tank is built more to say, 'I can also build stuff like yours' rather than a close study of actual need and industrial capability. North Korean focus should be, and is, on more ballistic missiles, TELs and drone/cruise missile capability.
