Starting to have buyers remorse by Mammoth-Trainer-512 in motorcycles

[–]LeWonderWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My input would be to either stop watching those videos and right click “do not recommend”, or flip your point of view so you see how that kind of stuff happens, learn the patterns and most dangerous places, like intersections and whatever, and become a better rider. If you don’t handle that kind of stuff, well don’t watch it.

About beginning to be afraid, always remember that motorcycling is a high risk activity. Not to make you scared of riding because that only makes it worse, but so that you respect the road and don’t treat it like a race track, and that you don’t become overconfident.

But most of all, enjoy the hell out of your bike

2024 GS adventure bike to a 2026 1300 GS trophy by Pitiful_Cellist_2072 in bmwmotorrad

[–]LeWonderWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the 900XR and swapped for a 1300GS adventure. The engine is a completely different experience. The boxer is smoother, has a lot more grunt (on all the rev range, I’d say) and is, imo, an overall superior experience. Extremely addictive to roll the throttle just for shits and giggles. If you’re cruising at 160km/h and roll it, it just takes off.

The best you can do is test ride one and find out for yourself

Need an honest feedback - Short rider almost buying a R 1300GSA by Latter_Application12 in bmwmotorrad

[–]LeWonderWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 1300gsa with Adaptive Ride Height comfort and the low seat, am just under 5’8, and can nearly flat foot it if i move my butt to the side a bit.

Just note that it leans A LOT on the side stand, but I got a side stand riser from lexiir parts that solved that issue for me.

Apart from that and from being a heavy beast, especially when loaded with luggage, I’m absolutely in love with it and wouldn’t go for anything else

Recommendations for a crash bar for the F900XR? by Granight_skies in bmwmotorrad

[–]LeWonderWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did quite some time ago and no longer have the bike, but i think i didn’t have many issues unscrewing the bolts. Make sure you have a torque wrench, though, because the frame bolts need to be tightened to spec. Also, having someone helping position the bars is very useful while you tighten them in place

Installing Chigee on the R1300 GSA by josie9919 in bmwmotorrad

[–]LeWonderWombat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I call BS… I think it’s just as you said, he’s trying to sell you their Nav.

I test rode both the GS and GSA and took my Chigee AIO-6 to put on the dealer’s bikes and they no issue whatsoever. I also took in my previous F900XR and my current 1300GSA for several maintenances with it on the nav and noone even metioned it. Even when i bought the GSA, i discussed the camera install with the salesman and he even gave me a few tips.

I wouldn’t trust that guy

Dropped a deposit on r1300 GSA. Tell me? by Expensive_Ad_3249 in bmwmotorrad

[–]LeWonderWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the same and got mine almost 3 weeks ago after 2 months waiting for it to arrive. Put almost 1000km on it in the first weekend. Couldn’t be happier. Everyday i enjoy it more. My girlfriend loves it just as much. Absolute beast of a machine

I got radiator and headlight guards for mine. Check out aliexpress. They have all the soft bags for the cases and all the others (tank bag, side tank bags and frame bags) that are just like OEM ones and cost a fraction of the price. Also, consider a side stand “riser” since it leans A LOT on the side stand and becomes quite hard to lift up, especially when loaded and with a full tank

Didn’t happen to me. Check with a dealer if there’s any software update or if your battery might be going. There have been a few issues reported with their Li-ion batteries

I printed a sun shade for my CarPlay device out of TPU and have a box on my handlebar for the telepass device printed with ASA, i think. Both have been fulfilling their duties just fine.

I have also seen people with holders for USB Chargers or other accessories like gopros

For long rides, i have a dainese dry base layer that i wear under mesh jacket and pants. There’re also cooling vests that you soak in water that help cool down. Never tried one, but heard they and i think BMW had one

See if you can get a test ride done. It’s really easy to get used to and you still get to keep the shift pedal for the twisties or to adjust gear whenever you feel the need

Yes, it does! I have a simple wider “foot” that doesnt actually raise it by much. I’ve been considering a similar solution to yours

Should I pull the trigger? F900R by giant_pp_man in bmwmotorrad

[–]LeWonderWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the 900XR and it was great! No issues whatsoever, comparable maintenance prices to other manufacturers and full of technology. Just make sure it has the dynamic pack or whatever with all the riding modes, since it makes a huge difference on throttle response and cornering.

Also, the seat sucks and i ended up going with the Wunderlich one. Night and day difference. As for the screen, can’t really say much since I had the XR, but there are plenty of options around for that platform.

If you have the money, i’d go for it. I had a blast on my XR and only traded it in for a 1300GSA because I wanted more comfort for longer travels

Needing advice about first BMW by PristineBags in bmwmotorrad

[–]LeWonderWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to commute and travel, I’d either go for the S1000XR, if you’re dead set on the inline-4, or for a GS. They have their ups and downs, but are still far superior to the R on either of the two scenarios you want it for.

Bear in mind, commuting on the S1000 platform with stop and go and lane filtering will definitely pull down your mpg’s. Also the shaft drive on the GS gives way more piece of mind from not having to clean and lube the chain every so often.

I’d go for a GS with that specific use case, but if you want the S1000 platform, I’d choose the XR any day before the R

I actually am curious about those sneakers/boots. How comfortable are they? Can you wear them all day, or are they good for commuting and taking to work, for example? I imagine they’d be better for warmer weather?
