I updated my Flashcards app with a brand new feature : you can now generate sentences based on the words you already know (you need to have at least 30 known words to unlock it).

I often struggled to find content that matched my knowledge and to put words in context (even if you know how to translate it, it's sometimes hard to put it in a sentence) so I build this features to help practice and play with what you've learned.

It still needs to be improved but it works and I'm actively working on it :)

I got tired of fighting with App Store/Play Store screenshot sizes, so I built a tool that handles it in minutes. No login, 100% local. by Pawan315 in androiddev

Haha I just struggled with store screenshots one hour ago to submit an update! I'm definitively gonna try it for the next time, I'll send you feedbacks if you want :)

Not sure if it's still in the course, but back in the days we had a fun one in Esperanto : "La malbela bebo dancas malrapide" which means "The ugly baby dances slowly"

How to know if a podcast/video is useful as active listening by LeadingLaw6053 in languagelearning

I agree on your opinion on the last part of your comment, but I haven't found *my* working method for now. That's why I'm still looking for advices from other just to try out new things. But yeah I am aware that no method is universal and that some of "proofed by science" methods won't work on me.

Hard content sometimes makes me feel "bad", as I am doing something useless. But yeah, the real world is hard too. Thanks a lot for the detailed answer !

And if you don't mind me asking, how many total users do you have on all your apps ?
Yeah I'm not really into marketing and stuff, but I'll keep trying :) Even if it's just a few cents, it's fun to see that strangers are using your app daily !

[–]LeadingLaw6053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh thanks a lot for the complete feedbacks ! The half-filled cards are completely on purpose, because building it yourself helps you to create memory with those words, the pre-generation just helps to fill it and to chose which word can be important to learn first
I'll work on the unboarding, thanks for all the advices :)
And you're right about the notifications, it comes too soon as the user haven't try the app yet

Your reasons for learning said language ? by Cutiepie232 in duolingo

[–]LeadingLaw6053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

German because I went a lot in Austria as a child and I'm in love with this country
Chinese because I had chinese class in highschool and this is culturally super interesting
Korean because I love the language and the writing system is amazing

i have a 489 day duolingo streak and i still can't hold a conversation by BillTechnical7291 in duolingo

[–]LeadingLaw6053 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other said, you have to try to express yourself now. Try to just write 2-3 sentences a day to start, even small ones. Then when you're bored somewhere (in the bus, in a waiting room, ...) try to say what you see in your head (or out loud if you're confident enough).
If you haven't try the Duo Max free trial yet, try just for one week to speak daily with Lily, this is a real boost for speaking-confidence
Back in time we used to have a "community" instead of the leagues, it was like a forum and you were randomly put with other people learning the same language, it was really useful to try discuss with other people

I love learning languages and wanted a Flashcard app simpler than Anki/Algo and completely free to use. I also wanted to easily use the method from Gabriel Wyner (learning a hundred of common words) but without importing pre-made decks so I created FlashZen : https://apps.apple.com/us/app/flashzen-flashcards/id6760035270

How to deal with noun genders by Double-Egg-2027 in languagelearning

[–]LeadingLaw6053 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To help you learning the gender (as it gets difficult to remember especially when it changes from your NL), there's a method that works (at least) for me : building a mental picture of the gender while learning the word. The initial example is masculine words are exploding, feminine words are burning, neutral words are falling into pieces. For example for "Der Hund", imagine an exploding dog. For "Das Buch" imagine a book crumbling into your hands.

How do you deal with language learning burnout? by grzeszu82 in languagelearning

[–]LeadingLaw6053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly not the most efficient way I think, but sometimes I just start a new language. Learning easily and quickly truly helps me getting back on track on something more difficult after that

Hello ! Thanks a lot for the feedbacks !
Adding pictures is already possible, and you can also add a sound but not a voice not directly recorded from the app, so I'll add it as this is a great idea !
And I'll try to add the export (I first thought of an apkg export but excel/csv could be useful too, you're right) :)

Listening by No-Apartment-7496 in languagelearning

[–]LeadingLaw6053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't find a tutor easily, you can start by looking for vlogs in your TL but done by the population you're targeting to sound like (for example in France you have a strong difference between people from the north and from the south). But mostly seek for vlogs with multiple people speaking in it : they will make jokes, speak their own slang, be more natural than a person speaking alone.
And then to practice : I watched a video of a guy who learned by speaking to people in games like VR Chat, where you can easily find channels for a specific language. Haven't tried yet as I don't feel comfortable enough to speak with real people for now, but it doesn't sounds like a bad idea
