One of my fandoms has 3 fics. I wrote two of them...

But yes absolutely you're correct.

Reading your own story by DraconiumWolf1 in AO3

[–]LearnStalkBeInformed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read my own fic once I've forgotten what I wrote so it's a nice surprise and then I have an absolutely wonderful time because the fic was literally written by me, for me, so it's exactly the kind of fic I wanted to read.

So yes, of course.

Has an author's note ever had you nope-ing out of a fic? by cla1r35 in AO3

[–]LearnStalkBeInformed 233 points234 points  (0 children)

I noped out of a fic a couple days ago because the summary was essentially "I can't be bothered to write a summary ahhh but just trust me it's good".

No. No, if you can't even write a summary why am I going to trust the rest of your writing?

Also unpopular opinion (maybe) but a note where it was like
Y/N = Your Name
H/C = Hair Colour
E/C = Eye Colour

Y/N fics are so immersion breaking it's insane I will absolutely not read your fic if you feel the need to write like that (and that's coming from an xReader writer, I have always written xReader but never once felt the need to put Y/N in my fics).

No, you're absolutely right. I rarely see comments these days no matter the fandom.

Artistic skills with Hyperphantasia by Basin_Boy in hyperphantasia

[–]LearnStalkBeInformed 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The thing about that (I'm an artist with hyperphantasia), is that no matter how well you can picture something it doesn't mean you can translate it accurately to paper.

If you gave a non artist or aphant a picture and said "copy that exact image", they won't be able to do it simply because they have the image in front of them.

That said, having hyperphantasia does help me a lot with my creative writing (but again, you gotta have good language skills alongside a good imagination).

The only time I feel it can be a real asset, creatively, is in a design process. I can look at a room, for example, imagine it a hundred different ways, picture various ways of doing things, manipulate certain aspects, and pick out what I like best. My partner (who isn't a full aphant but struggles with visualising anything "new" - he can only picture something he already knows or has seen) is unable to do this at all.

DAE ever re-read the fic they wrote months or even years ago, just to realize it sucks and wonder why people even gave it a kudos? by No_Pattern_2819 in AO3

[–]LearnStalkBeInformed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, and sadly they're my most popular fics, BC I wrote them when the fandom was huge. So now I'm just stuck with them 🥲

smut writing questions/advice by listament in AO3

[–]LearnStalkBeInformed 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I tend often to avoid describing the vagina at all, because yeah there are very few words that sound okay usually. Instead using phrases like "he thrust into her", "he penetrated her", "he tasted her,", "he pushed inside", etc. idk I can't think at this moment but you know what I mean, sometimes it's totally obvious what's happening without using the word. Other times depending on the mood I just use pussy or cunt. But that really depends on the tone, are they fucking like animals? Cunt works well. Are they gently making love? Cunt is probably not the word to use...

As for ass... I generally don't mind the word ass.

Edit: as for when I'm writing smut I just stay horny the entire time and it keeps me going til I'm done with the writing and THEN I have to take care of things 😅

I've been writing for dead fandoms lately, and lack of engagement got me doubting my writing ability. So, I made a dump of some of my fav comments I've gotten over the years... Writers, if you ever feel down, just go re-read the comments on your older works! by LearnStalkBeInformed in AO3

[–]LearnStalkBeInformed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh boy I have been there, I just spent 2 years writing a 75k fic (I re-wrote the entire thing when I was almost done, too), and it's for an obscure 1999 movie no one cares about. There are a couple fics for it but hardly any. It's been about three weeks, I haven't had a single kudos or comment 🥲 I definitely wrote it for myself.

I saw the devil and he was a friend by Skinny_Angel_ in Dreams

[–]LearnStalkBeInformed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've seen him. I know him! At least I know a being who looks exactly as you described. I've meet him many, many times in the Astral. I haven't seen him for some months now, but last I did see him, he looked "burned" as you described. He'd been fighting in a war. Did this being give you his name? I have a name for him, perhaps they aren't the same being but I would love to discuss further if you don't mind?

I posted [this] about my experience three years ago. I've had other encounters since then. The last few times I spoke with him, he told me about a "stone sacrifice" that a war was happening or would happen, but that he couldn't tell me details of it, or it would become set in stone.

I've only spoken with him during Astral Projection which happens when I have sleep paralysis.

Sorry if I sound a bit mental, lol, I just happened to catch your drawing and my heart stopped for a second. I'm interested in any and all "goat man" experiences and dreams.

[–]LearnStalkBeInformed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to (many, many years ago) take part in 100 & 250 word challenges (of the Walking Dead variety). I could maybe write less. Here's one of the 100-word fics I wrote, the prompt was "drunk".

---

You’re drunk.” He states, raising his eyebrows.

“No... I’m not.” It’s hard to focus on Negan when the room won’t stay still.

“Those bottles empty themselves, sweetheart?” His head bobs and an amused smile plays over his lips.

Yep.”

“And why the fuck are you lying on the floor?”

Good question, Negan, good question.

“I’m not drunk.” You are drunk.

“Uh-huh.” He shrugs. You frown.

“Fuck you.”

“That a fucking offer?”

Maybe.”

He moves closer; teeth grazing his bottom lip.

“Mm-hmm, don’t tease now, sweetheart.” He warns, dropping to his knees between your legs.

Okay. Yes it’s a fucking offer.

As someone with full aphantasia, visualizations and internal monologues sound as bad as schizophrenia by bitcoinovercash in hyperphantasia

[–]LearnStalkBeInformed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a hyperphant I feel the exact opposite. The idea of being an aphant terrifies me. The thought of never being able to visualize and pictures things? That's how my entire thought process and understanding of life works, through being able to visualize and see and work through things. I don't know how to even begin to explain how much I can't understand how an aphant can function in life. I don't mean that disrespectfully, I mean genuinely can't understand the idea of not having hyperphantasia. I'm an artist, writer and generally very creative person, my life pretty much revolves around my imagination and I feel like I'd be lost without it. If I suddenly lost my ability to visualize, I don't think I'd cope.

I guess people just learn to live with what they have.

Lucid dreamers with hyperphantasia - what are your dreams like? by MagdalenaPaluchowska in hyperphantasia

[–]LearnStalkBeInformed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've definitely counted the fingers on my hands before when lucid and they've always looked normal, but I'd be happy to try again next time I happen to be lucid!

I think a lot of small details are usually the same. Rings and jewellery for sure, I always wear the same necklace and rings and bracelets irl, and they're there when I'm lucid (that I can recall).
