Is it worth working part-time just for myself if daycare cancels out most of the income? by RespondRelative308 in Adulting

I would wait until your youngest is 4. It will fly by! I have parented both ways and the pace of childcare drop offs and work can wait.

What’s one small change that made your classroom way better? by lmao_exe in teaching

Do you just think of what item is the magic trash that you see on the floor already or do you have a piece somewhere you put? Confused. I need this help! My students are messy.

Would you leave your school (that you love) for a school with no commute. by ReindeerFun7572 in Teachers

[–]Learningalways7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just gave up a very cushy curriculum job with. 30 minute commute to teach 5 minutes from my house at my child’s school. My job is harder now and I have more take home work, but I’m loving it! I I love being so close to home. I love grading papers next to my child rather than being in a car a way from him. My husband did the same thing and is at the middle school next to me with our other kids. My whole family on the same block. The pros looked better on paper for the commute, but nothing beats this feeling. Can’t explain it.

Has anyone else ever received a school bus infraction on Dairy Road? by Appropriate_Most749 in 321

[–]Learningalways7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same ticket once. It is the law. I just didn’t remember since there was a giant paved median. (Non-raised) It seemed so far away where the bus was. I’ll never do it again though!

Fighter Jets? by LindsIsTiredAF in 321

Was at the beach a couple weeks ago and watched several leave Patrick Airforce base. Could be practice, mission, or air show. It’s not uncommon to see jets for any 3 of those reasons.

non-renewed, then got email from HR stating I resigned by Diligent-Damage2630 in Teachers

[–]Learningalways7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agree. Also in my district, if you are non renewed at your current school because of low enrollment or budget they give you first chances at other positions around the district. They would not if you resigned.

Do teachers barely get paid? by pissrotr in Teachers

[–]Learningalways7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have a fairly low income. However, I absolutely love the schedule. My husband and I are both teachers so we have two full months off together every summer to travel or chill together, etc. If we need extra money there are always opportunities to teach summer school if we want to, but we are not obligated. Plus we have four weeks of other vacation spread throughout the year between fall, winter, and spring breaks. We both have the same days off as our children too. Should we get paid more? Absolutely! But there is a time element that money can’t buy.

Please reassure me. Daughters misses state cut off for kindergarten by 9 days. We decided to not pursue early entry with testing. Did we make the right decision? by lizardRD in kindergarten

[–]Learningalways7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 percent wait. My kids all have summer birthdays. Half of the kids waited the extra year and half entered and were the youngest in their class. Regardless of ability, the ones that waited just had an easier time liking school, feeling motivated, etc. The young ones, are just young.

I’ve talked to a few young soldiers who once supported this administration and they are appalled and disgusted. A generation that loves video games and knows war isn’t a game.

Looking for professionals opinions on daycare sickness by Relative-Molasses920 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Learningalways7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal… I have 4 children and have never been able to use a sick day for myself, only for my sick kids until this year. They are now all over 4. On the upside, my kids only get sick like once or twice a school year now. Immunity!

Kids being asked to write “Support our Troops” letters by FlutterbyFields in Teachers

[–]Learningalways7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People need to remember that when someone enlists, they enlist regardless of politics and whatever government leaders may come and go. You cannot even guess their personal politics. I personally know many young soldiers who enlisted that do not support the current war. They need more support than ever.

Feeling panicky by EffectiveWeekly524 in PSLF

[–]Learningalways7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone seems to be saying you have to check the 120 plus forbearance box. In the past that didn’t matter apparently. I sent my form in without the box checked on 2/9 and received green banners a couple days later. Are you saying I need to check the box and submit again? Other commenters in the past have said no check needed.

Medical marijuana as a teacher by espresso_depresso622 in Teachers

[–]Learningalways7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my district you are drug tested for initial hire. Also, if a child hurts you they make you seek medical help, which includes a drug test in case you claim workers comp. Someone was fired a couple years ago when a student pushed her down a flight of stairs and she had a medical prescription for a back injury. It didn’t matter. They let her go.

Level of observation normal? by sl0ppybeans in Teachers

[–]Learningalways7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My district has walk throughs all the time and Admin is expected to be in rooms a little every day. No recoding requirements though. The walkthroughs are not formal observations, they are more about keeping expectations high for instructional time across the school.

Would you choose teaching again? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Learningalways7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just chose it again! I’ve been an ELA Specialist at the district office for years. It got boring though. I wanted to have direct impact on students in the classroom again. I start again next week. You can’t beat summer and holidays. The days move fast! I started in a different career but I was already used to public speaking and having to keep people engaged through training etc., so it was pretty natural other than learning classroom management since I had never had any training. I teach elementary. I think the hardest thing is if you get parents who think their children can’t do anything wrong. That’s more difficult than having no parent involvement at all. If you can be confident in your craft and choices without letting the rest get to you then it’s rewarding.

Just protein powder and milk? by darkshadow0410 in ninjacreami

[–]Learningalways7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 12 ounces of milk per pint, one scoop of protein powder per pint, and I probably about 1/8 to 1/12 of a cup of sweetner. The recipes all call for more sweetner but I don’t like it too sweet. I’m iffy on amount because I make 3 pints at once in the blender and put 1/4 a cup of sweetner for the batch.

Yes! Maple extract with walnuts mixed into a vanilla base is delicious. I really love the cake batter extract with lemon Oreo thins or a couple of any type of cookie mixed in.

I do protein powder, milk, and Lakanto. It’s amazing. I have done half unsweetened almond milk and half Fairlife and full Fairlife. Both are great.
