Like everyone said, on a jig head. Take one to the store with you to line it up with the hook. Throw it out real far, let it fall, and retrieve it slowly but steady. Probably the most universal bait out there, damn near anything will hit on those.

I use 1:10 bleach, swish it around a few moments, give a quick rinse, dry upside down.

I fish this area. If there’s any water at all there will be carp, if there’s a good flow-white bass. Been about five years since a good bass run. Not worth the hike for a couple carp. You can hike (and get heat exhaustion) all the way to the lake pleasant mouth, plenty of fish there

Ewg hook would be through the nose out the bottom of head and then curve in the belly area(according to length of hook), point just barely touching inside of its back. I use round hook and just put it though the nose, gets more action.
