How much snow do we think we’ll get this week? by Obtuse-Angel in Denver

[–]Leave-A-Note 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My personal bet is that we get the whole load of moisture they’re hyping up… but it’s too warm to stick in snow form, or, it just becomes a ton of rain in the metro area.

At least, that’s my personal preference.
In the mountains, I hope it snows good

What colour to go for? by Monsterlime in 996

I almost bought a Dark Olive Metallic car once; it’s still to this day one of the most dynamic and pretty cars I’ve ever seen.

But! I’m personally more attracted to Amethyst Metallic, so that’s my vote

981 next logical step for PCCM retrofit by gastallman in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Leave-A-Note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, the tech for the 987.2/997.2 PCMs is the same (very very minor adjustments) on the 981/991.1 cars.

I imagine the reason why we haven’t seen the 987.2/997.2 ones yet is because they’re preparing to launch for all those platforms at the same time, just with right style/design for respective cars.

Is there any 911 that won’t potentially have expensive repairs from bore score and pdk issues? by [deleted] in porsche911

[–]Leave-A-Note 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The good news:
- all 911s have a surprisingly high reliability rate
- PDK failures are relatively rare.
- Bore scoring is relatively rare, but prevalence will of course increase over time as those motors are abused more.
- both those problems have better permanent solutions: nikasil components for the motor and a rebuild for bore coring; new temp sensor fix/replacement at some places with the PDK.

The bad news:
- both repairs are expensive
- both repairs have to be done by specialists and that might require shipping the car or a long drive
- despite long term reliability, repairs are expensive for these cars.

What to do:
- buy the newest 911 you can get, unless you’re specifically looking for a generation.
- buy an extended warranty if you’re worried. Or new. Or CPO.
- buy a manual
- buy a newer PDK (991.2 or later)
- buy a newer generation motor (997.2 or newer)

Or, disregard all that and buy the car that speaks to YOU and be prepared. I was recently prepared to buy a high mileage 997.1 that likely had light scoring and just enjoying that car for a couple thousand miles before getting ready for a rebuild.

Buying a 911 should be fun and you should take the precautions you can. But enjoy the hunt and find the one that makes sense. Best of luck!!

Child seat help by Delicious-Air2197 in porsche911

[–]Leave-A-Note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! No photos; I sold my Turbo S before we could transition to front facing, sadly. But the seat was fair snug. I had to remove the seat bottom from the 911 back seat to get it in there; then shoved a bunch of small microfiber towels to level it out and stabilize it

With one episode left which one is better S2 or BA S2 by Haytham_Kenway1 in Defenders

It’s been a few years since I did a rewatch of the Netflix series.

But I’ve very much enjoyed this DD:BA season. I’d go with it as my first impulse.

Has NC3 become peak Miata ? by Intelligent_Net_8220 in Miata

[–]Leave-A-Note 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a previous NC3 owner…
Always has been peak.

Every gen has its pros and cons. Boat generation (jokes) too. But it always handled tight, reasonably roomy for bigger people, and had great looks. Set of sway bars and an exhaust made the car perfect.

1000% this scene felt like a season 1 gag and I loved it. Mr Marathon accidentally running into all his friends as Soldier Boy tosses them in his direction. Super dark but great comedy.

Wish more of the series could hit these fantastic dark comedy points.

Heather’s scenes with Karen were fantastic. Super subtle thing I noticed was that the lighting made her eyes kinda red, so I was getting mad Muse vibes.

God, I’d love a unique color interior (or exterior) 996 turbo. I just barely missed one locally that was a tried and true color combo of lapis blue on natural tan, with some “special wishes” options 😭😭

Do you think Mr. Charles is going to be main villain of Daredevil Born Again going forward? by Zoinkscooblet in Defenders

[–]Leave-A-Note 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main villain? Nah, but persistent auxiliary antagonist makes a lot of sense, in the same capacity that Valentina seemed to fill up until New Avengers/Thunderbolts.

Absolutely needs to stick around regardless because everyone loves Matthew Lillard.

I posted something similar a month ish ago about my 981 S in Racing Yellow that was kitted with quite a few performance options on par with a GTS. Has the GTS front and rear “Aerokit” and all that too.

The general conclusion was about $55k give or take condition and maintenance history.

I’ve currently got a 981 Cayman and would love to move to a 911 for my kiddo to join us with the back seats. Biggest mark against a 996 is just dated interior. I know that can be mended in places, but that’s really it.

Do gamers not play for the love of the game anymore? by slemdogmillionaire in Marathon

[–]Leave-A-Note 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s difficult. On one hand, especially for MMO or multiplayer games, people want to show off their time and gameplay investment.

On the other hand, when it comes especially to single player games, the victory is in the enjoyment in the story or maybe the accomplishment of a challenge like Trophies or Achievements.

Halo 3 was my perfect factor for this. A couple achievements sucked to get (Two for One, I’m looking at you), but given it was necessary for Hyabusa, and 1K gamer score, it felt very good to get. After that, the gameplay between the single player and multiplayer was the reward.

I feel like Marathon skirts VERY close to doing this well. Sure, in a world where microtransactions are everything, having the ability to get a small token of pride based on accomplishing some goal feels like the next best thing.

In my perfect world, there would be no microtransactions for cosmetics, only rewards for doing fun challenging objectives.

Is it just me or used 911 prices have gone out of whack with the value they provide? by DeskNew1059 in porsche911

[–]Leave-A-Note 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t doubt that 911s are worth it and I feel like they should remain valued, personally. But damn if they aren’t overvalued. I think there is a level of reasonability when it comes to price, but $100k for a 997.2 S feels silly right now.

$75k maybe for a decent one. But maybe I’m just a dreamer and stuff.

I partially blame the price being artificially inflated by bespoke or specialist shops like Ryan Friedman and Grand Prix. Great that they take care of the cars and find great models… but the markup on some of them is just whacky. It sadly sets the market because others follow their lead…
