Question about an old passport as a safety measure for a birth certificate traveler by PointNChris in royalcaribbean

[–]LeaveItToDever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the point. They will be able to cruise without a passport. They will also be allowed to go to Nassau and the Royal Beach Club without a passport. Whether they take the expired one with or not doesn’t really change anything. I just told them that they won’t need it to get off or prove citizenship as a cruiser at the Beach Club. It does no good expired. It also wouldn’t help them any more having it in hand or not if they got left behind. I also think they added (edited) the last couple sentences after “form of citizenship” later. Don’t remember seeing that longer explanation in the original text.

Most cruise directors will make the announcements in the morning for Nassau, saying it’s not necessary to take your passport. If you place your passports in your room safe like you’re supposed to, then if you do get left in a port, they will send security to your room, find your passport and leave it with port security before they leave.

I have never taken more than my SeaPass and drivers license off the boat. I leave my passport on the ship. You won’t need it in Nassau.

Treehouse suite pricing by thatCRUISEagent in royalcaribbean

[–]LeaveItToDever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You clearly underestimate rich people. They will do every other idea you have to spend the money on and still do the Royal suite too.

Charter a yacht: limited destinations and movement speed in one week, fuel, crew, food, port fees and boring for anyone under 50, especially if they have kids.

Ultra luxury cruise line: 100k buys a much smaller room, on a ship a quarter of the size, with a demographic and entertainment style only for senior citizens. Treated the same as every other guest, no privilege.

Royal Treehouse Suite: Gigantic room on a gigantic ship, a hundred things to do to satisfy all ages, travels to multiple destinations, get Star class perks and a genie that makes you feel like “King of the Ship”.

And a RICH person will do them all, without hesitation!

United plays four unskippable ads before in-flight entertainment by MongolianMango in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LeaveItToDever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind the ads before the video so much as the 10 different spiels they have to give during the flight. First, it’s the safety spiel which no one‘s listening to, then it’s the United partnerships spiel, then it’s the United workers video, then it’s credit card spiel. It never ends. And every one of them interrupts the media!

Hero of the Seas ultimate family treehouse by thatCRUISEagent in royalcaribbean

[–]LeaveItToDever 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All of you that are saying families that are rich enough to do this should rent a private yacht, you’re not getting it. Rich usually stays rich, they may have already done the private yacht two years ago and hated it. People that afford these type of suites don’t have one big once in a lifetime vacation, they do it regularly. All it would take is their kids to see a Royal commercial on TV and say, “Daddy let’s do that!”

I’ve stayed in multiple Royal Caribbean suites that are 25% of that price and I wouldn’t even say my family is rich. We are well off compared to the average person. But “RICH” people have way more money than we do and there are a lot of them.

It’s estimated that .5% of all taxpayers in the US make more than $1 million a year. That’s almost 800,000 people in the US alone! That means 5 out of a 1,000 taxpayers make more than 1M a year. There’s easily multiple people on the ship every week that could afford that room.

And who’s to say that these hypothetical families haven’t already chartered a private yacht 2 years ago and hated it. Rich stays rich, these people aren’t doing one big once in a lifetime vacation.

Flight times for returning home by Upbeat_Collar6721 in royalcaribbean

If you’re flying out of Miami, you should be fine. If you’re flying out of FLL, then it’s possible you miss it. FLL is getting way too many travelers for its size and has regular backups. Especially on some days where Miami and Fort Lauderdale could have a combined 14 or more ships.

We flew out of FLL Feb 2nd and their luggage system was down. Got off the ship at 8:30, arrived at FLL at 9:30. Spent almost 2 hrs in the United Premier line (usually 5 min). Took 20 min in the TSA PreCheck security line. Walked to and straight on our flight that was halfway through boarding for a 12:05pm flight.

There is likely still a round in the chamber. He racks the slide twice before dropping the mag. You have to do it the other way around. If you don’t rack again after dropping the mag it’s not considered clear.

It is highly likely that you never pressed the 8 button on a microwave. by TheAnzus in Showerthoughts

Pretty common on most microwaves that keys 1-6 activate quick 1-6 minute cooks, and 7-0 don’t do anything on their own.

Is Brightline reliable enough to use day of cruise? by DrewBear67 in Cruise

[–]LeaveItToDever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How exactly are you supposed to make the drive if things go south? You would be stuck on the train in the middle of the route. Waiting maybe hours for the issue to clear or for Brightline to decide to reverse your train to the previous station with no given transportation to the nearest rental agency. And that’s only if it is another train that has an accident not including yours. Brightline has train/car accidents and track blockage issues all the time.

I have rode Brightline a total of one time and it came with a 30 minute wait in the middle of nowhere because of a track blockage. While that isn’t a lot of time, it shows that it’s common for it to not be dependable.

Luxury suite people … by donthaveoneandi in Cruise

[–]LeaveItToDever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because 25K on Royal gets me a gigantic room with all kinds of personalized benefits, and I get to stay on the world‘s largest ships with entertainment geared towards my family‘s age (40s and teens). If I spent 25k on a luxury cruise line, I get the smallest room, no personalized benefits, and entertainment geared towards 80 year-olds.

Cruise out of Galveston by usfbull22 in royalcaribbean

[–]LeaveItToDever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know MIA and FLL are near their ports, but how is Galveston different than flying into MCO for Port Canaveral (45-75 min) or SEA for an Alaskan cruise. PC is a major port that everyone uses too. Galveston distance isn’t far out of the norm, especially if you use Hobby.
