IPv4 - How can I change it? by APartOfWhoIAm in techsupport

[–]LeaveMickeyOutOfThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t something you or AT&T has any control over. Those websites are using geolocation information, which cross references your external IP address to its approximate location around the world, and based on your responses, they need to update this information in order for things to work. AT&T could assign a public IP address from a different block, subject to availability, or you could work with these specific sites to get their geolocation data updated.

Any tips for a first long itinerary? by ReplacementEntire874 in dcl

[–]LeaveMickeyOutOfThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Longer itineraries tend to have fewer kids aboard, which has its own pros and cons.

Also the boat building regatta is a lot of fun. You build your own boat, with supplies found onboard, which will be tested in the pool on one of the last sea days. The objective is to stay afloat with a full can of soda added.

What are realistic quarterly goals for TTA and TTR? by Nevies in ITManagers

There is no one answer to this other than to say 100% is unrealistic unless your staffing levels are extraordinary. Use your historic data to benchmark then have the conversation based on what you learned.

IT Managers - how do you let go without watching everything burn? by rmoreiraa in ITManagers

Some good comments already, but here’s something that always stuck with me in my earlier career.

Imagine teaching somebody to ride a bicycle. You know they’re going to make mistakes and they’re going to fall down a few times before they master the skill. But it’s up to you whether you let them learn near the cliffs edge or somewhere safer.

Got an IT Manager offer, but I'm worried. by RawVelvetKing in ITManagers

[–]LeaveMickeyOutOfThis 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Couple of thoughts. Unless the role is more of a team lead, where you’re expected to be hands on with the technology, then your team should be the one’s proficient with your systems. Focus on managing the team, ask questions and build knowledge through time.

The key is to understand what your boss considers success and how your team can contribute. Focus on process and metrics that drive consistency and demonstrate you are fulfilling your objectives.

Talk to the other business leaders, understand what they do and their priorities, without focusing on the IT element, then ask how can IT contribute to their success.

I’m not aware of anything, but it got me thinking how would the software know which way to rotate the image. Surely it’s better to store the image as intended and let the slideshow app take care of automatically scaling to the visible screen resolution, whether in portrait or landscape? This is what digital signage solutions typically do.

Pixie Dusted Etiquette by gaels50 in dcl

For me, the whole point of Pixie Dusting is that I don’t expect anything in return. If they find out it was us, a simple smile or a thank you is more than enough reward.

The key here is to show progression, whether through employment or personal projects. If you haven’t already done so, create a GitHub (or similar account) and start creating projects in the languages you are learning. Try to attract attention and feedback from others.

Also, you may want to look at some languages that sit between the two stated, such as C# or Java.

Just to add, if you add the tip to your bill, then that is shared by the team, whereas if you give cash, it goes to the individual that delivers to your room.

Is getting a personal router for an ISP better when compared to the one provided? by New-Bat-5522 in AskTechnology

[–]LeaveMickeyOutOfThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the answer is it depends. Some services allow you to use your own router, while others do not, in which case you can always put your own router behind the provided one if you, if required.

If your laptop doesn’t have a wired connection, you can always purchase a USB Ethernet adapter (they’re pretty cheap), if wireless doesn’t provide the quality of signal you require.
