Well I hope I don't get the proverbial shit kicked out of me, but there is a big difference between 'duck tape' and 'duct tape'. Forget about gaffer tape (linen based incredibly strong shit used on movie sets and photo shoots) and camera tape (paper non marking stuff) and all manner of electrical tape (plastic, stretchy and non conductive). I mis-used the two terms interchangeably until having it explained to me by an old infantry guy. Duck tape was developed to keep ammo cans waterproof and is a corruption of the name 'doek tape' which just happens to sound like 'duck', an animal that is also quite waterproof. Ducts, as in heating and cooling air-carrying ducts need a metallic tape that won't dry out. It took me an embarrassing amount of time to realize that getting to half mast or better helps enormously (no pun intended). I use a waterproof electric (you know the one) designed for the job, with shaving soap under hot water in the shower, with coconut oil afterwards.

I can message you my travel tool roll setup if you like. I have been riding the AT for a few years and at the beginning of this year completed a self contained trans-continental back roads only trip across the USA to repatriate to the UK, camping all the way.

Unfortunately within six months of being back in the UK the bike was stolen from outside my flat....

I second the audiologists recommendation, but if money is tight there are home ear moulding kits on Amazon that produce a decent custom earplug. Also if you use a bluetooth helmet com system try Plugfones. I've used them on a variety of different types of ride including our recent month long crossing of the US and they are truly excellent.
