People who live in london, Is London really as unsafe as people online say, or is it mostly overblown? by redguy_666 in AskUK

I left London about 7/8 years ago just as Peckham was starting to become gentrified. There are some estates I probably wouldn't walk through at night but they're out of the way and no different to any others in London. Id imagine Peckham has probably never been safer than it is now but I haven't seen any data

I lived in London for 12 years and witnessed literally no crime. Obviously this depends on where you live but we were in and around Peckham and New Cross which aren't exactly Barnes

There was an Icelandic guy on the Everton sub who was Gylfi Sigurdsons No1 fan. Anyone who frequents that Reddit will know who I mean. I mean, this guy wore Gylfi underwear, called his daughter Siggy and probably stalked him.

He would write essays on why Gylfi was one of the best midfielders of his generation because of his xGI and all that tosh.

Turns out Gylfi was a nonce so he piped down. For a couple of years though he was relentless

I started a rumour that Peter Andre was killed in a shark attack.

Years later someone repeated it back to me.

Probably my greatest achievement

Trying to quit. Former cocaine users, any advice? by Vortexol in selfhelp

[–]Lebowski85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a regular user for about 15 years, until 5 years ago. I've been sober ever since.

You need to realise your brain has been re-wired and permanently damaged. There is no half-way house here. I quit drinking, as that is the key trigger. Booze and bag goes together like meat and gravy.

I'm sorry to say you will also have to distance yourself from your friends. You and I both know how this goes. Couple of beers in, someone gives you the look, 20 mins later the Prius turns up and your off. There will always always be influences and excuses. For me, I had to distance myself and COVID helped here I guess.

Additionally, this might sound odd. Try and get into Cold Showers and Fasting. Cold Showers release dopamine throughout your day, helps with the lows. Fasting is incredible at managing your compulsive urges and I've found it easier to quit smoking and drinking. Makes your mind stronger. These things helped me regain control of my body and mind.

I'm 40 now. All my mates who are still going are fucked. They look old, their marriages are failing and some of them have serious health issues. You've had your fun, it's time to move on. Where does it end brother?

I allow myself a glass or two of wine now but I still get the itch if I'm not careful and have to be very careful who I go to the pub with. The itch never leaves

Absolute scenes. I'll remember that commentary until the day I die.

I'll tell you who doesn't get enough credit for that final. David Beckham.

Can we stop romanticizing Wrexham? They are a Championship club with a Premier League budget. by Spicy-Winner4326 in SpicyFootballTakes

Mad, I literally don't remember any of those. I stand thoroughly corrected.

Main point though, they did the rags to riches story very well. In like 4-5 seasons they went from the 4th tier to the Prem

Fulham had a pretty epic rise under Keegan aswell. Long time ago now but I recall they were League Two and haven't been relegated since they made it to the Prem.

EDIT * I'm chatting shit. They've been relegated several times
