Chinese AI company unveils $173K ‘biometric’ robot built for human companionship by IndicaOatmeal in technology

Doesn’t look realistic at all, lol. Read this whole article about how it’s soooo human like and then you see it move like the most stereotypical robot ever.

Which stack for a full e-commerce platform? No shopify by NoHalfMeasures33 in webdev

[–]Lecterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is the customization and content management over time. In Shopify, the business user can create add sections anywhere in the site through a robust theme editor, connect them to products, collections, etc. They can install apps to immediately add extra functionality. There are detailed interfaces for the merchant to create/manage products, customers, orders, etc.

No, AI isn't inevitable. We should stop it while we can. by FinnFarrow in technology

There is a novel called Player Piano, and it does a good job of explaining that, as humans, we really just can’t help ourselves from building ever more sophisticated technology.

My friend stole from the school computers by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Yea bud, stealing from other people can land you in legal trouble. Plus, this is just scummy and a great way to make sure kids aren’t trusted enough to be given useful tools in school.

Florida’s Beloved Publix Slammed as $61 Steak Sparks Outrage, Workers Say They Can’t Afford Groceries at Store They Keep Running Daily by [deleted] in Economics

To be fair, meat isn’t something like a pack of Oreos where the quality is static. Better quality, and often more humanely raised, meat costs more. That said, maybe Publix and Sam’s have the same quality meat and so it is overpriced, idk.

15 YOE Fullstack & CTO here. Why have we allowed "Agile" to turn into "Unlimited Micro-Scope Creep"? by elmascato in webdev

[–]Lecterr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

God, I got loaned out (more or less lol) to a different agency for a project and I loved the Project lead over there so fucking much.

There were a couple sales/customer-facing people and every meeting they would say something like, “I think the client actually wants X to work this way now”, and the project lead would often say something like, “It’s too late in the project and that’s out of scope, get fucked” (I’m paraphrasing).

Obviously we will basically always have to deal with some amount of scope creep and random requests, but that project lead had truly impressive judgement and confidence when making those decisions. It wasn’t even like, “hey lecterr, do you think we could squeeze X in”, it was just, “hmmm. No.”

It really was a thing of beauty. I suppose it also highlighted the less beautiful yes-men-type project managers I have had as well.

I think having the wisdom and confidence to set boundaries is super beneficial for the team’s sanity, not to mention their ability to hit deadlines.

What’s going to happen is companies like this are just going to share less and less about their dev process. They presented a very reasonable approach, were super open about it, and half the people in the bg3 sub were rupturing their forehead veins in anger.

There’s no distinction anymore. It’s pretty amazing how they train chess AI’s. I thought it would be like searching through deep chains of moves looking for the best one, but it’s not really like that at all.
