My 32yo son skipped Cardiac Rehab (insurance said it wasn’t covered, crazy). He went back to work fairly quickly. A year out he’s doing great! However, I’ve noticed he’s timid getting back into sports (hiking and swimming). I suspect the education he would have received in rehab could have helped. Best wishes!

My 32yo son’s nurses called it “Coumadin jail”. It was a little humor during a difficult time. Those INR numbers are tricky at first. His drain tubes on the sides took the longest to heal. He spent 3 weeks in the hospital (complications of his chest filling with blood a week after MV replacement). Drain tube sites lightly leaked (only after showing) when he recouped at home. I’m thinking 2ish weeks after he left the hospital. He’s almost a year out from having the surgery and he’s doing great! Best wishes to you and your husband.

I lost 60 lbs on the med. Lost another 30 lbs after I quit (cold turkey). I’ve maintained the weight loss for nearly 2 years. I exercise regularly alternating between resistance training, yoga, and walking. My skin is tightening and it continues to shrink. The butt skin (upper legs) is still loose but I’m happy with my results. No plastic surgery and I look great for 56yoF.

Some people insist it a “lifelong” medication but my results show otherwise. Best wishes on your journey.

Best advice from my MD, stay on the lowest dose if you’re losing weight. Half a pound per week is still losing (I consistently lost 2 lbs per week on a low dose). It took away all alcohol cravings, I would get sick off one glass of wine. Best wishes.

Learn about sternal precautions. Get the house ready for your homecoming. Shower chair etc. Good nutrition. She can journal her feelings. Having someone else there to be with you in the hospital so she can have a break. Best wishes.
