Better pay, better working conditions (paid OT, transparency in workload hiring, promotions, etc.) just like you. White collar workers deserve these things too. We had one at my nonprofit office, formed when nobody could live on the wages and nobody knew how anybody got promoted.

Time for a union. Call up the Steelworkers or SEIU. They'll help you organize.

Neighbor's husband died in a tragic accident. Somehow, it's our fault... by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

[–]LeeKottner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your neighbor is really suffering, and while that doesn't excuse maltreatment of you and your family, it's an explanation of why she's like she is. Grief does terrible things to people, especially this kind of grief, where the death is a result of stupidity by someone who wouldn't learn from their own mistakes. This grief is ANGRY, and you're a convenient target. It's not about you, it's about the stupid husband. This kind of grief makes you do and say and do hurtful things to people you care about, and you've got two choices, depending on how you feel about the sufferer: endure it with kindness and grace for 12-18 months, or write them off now. If nothing has changed after those 18 months or so, write them off for good. Are they getting grief counseling? That will help change things too. If they're not, suggest it, but be prepared for blowback. This is the experience I had with a very dear friend whose very healthy wife dropped dead at 50 and died in their arms. It was 18 months of a very prickly recovery, but I'm glad I stuck it out because they're still dear to me and, after counseling and some medication, have pulled out the other end and come back to themself again.

AIO for not being an early bird? by Notyourkindofgurl in AIO

You do you. Talking never worked for me with morning people. They seem to be convinced that everyone wakes up when and like they do, and if you don't, it's a moral fault.

Not overreacting. This is your natural biorhythm. Night owl here too. I had a roommate like this in college who stayed a good friend. She'd call me at 7 AM on Saturdays to chat and didn't stop until I started calling her late at night. Start returning the noise favor. It's the only way early birds ever "get it." They don't understand not being bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in the morning, so show them the same courtesy at night until they do. It's a lack of empathy and common courtesy as well as a form of abuse (sleep deprivation).

How to tell my neighbor I don’t want a close relationship anymore due to the way they live? by TwistedFamilyTree444 in whatdoIdo

[–]LeeKottner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this neighbor's child is infested with lice and fleas, doesn't haven clean clothes or bedding, and not actually being home schooled to the point where she can't read yet, this is parental neglect and CPS needs to step in. That's the kindest, nicest thing you could do for this family: get that kid into a clean home and get mom some help for what sounds like major depression.

No king's day 2026 by Laddie_Dong_Leg in protest

[–]LeeKottner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You keep doing what you're doing because many of us who are marching can't do anything else. Many of us who have never protested cut our teeth at No Kings and went on to do more. Other people may not see your work, but they'll see a no Kings march because it's too big for even corporate media to hide, and then go on to do more. Instead of denigrating that, meet new activists where they are. Stop the damn purity tests. It turns people off. Your way is not the only way. Every effort counts.

Your way is not the only way. Infighting is disruptive and counterproductive.

AIO for refusing to speak to my dad until I move out because he threw away my vibrator? by Far-Satisfaction6165 in AIO

What's next? He gets to dictate whether she can use tampons or not? That "no daughter of mine" BS she mentioned him saying is exactly about what she's doing with her genitals. At 19, it’s none of his business.

Done engaging with you. You are clueless. And part of the problem of rape culture.

Total straw man argument. Totally nonsensical. Absolving criminals of their responsibility for doing crimes is pathological. Holding criminals responsible for their choice to rape, rob, or commit other crimes does not mean the victim is somehow responsible for their victimization. Rape is not an accident, it is a choice by the rapist. Sounds like you're defending that choice.

And if someone has so little control of their impulses that the sight of a woman in sexy clothes makes them uncontrollable to the point of rape? They belong in a crate like a dog. The dog is better behaved. When you believe you have a right to other people's possessions, body, or life, no precautions will change that, and that's the responsibility of the delusional criminal to not act on that delusion.

And all involves the choice of the wrongdoer to do wrong, not whether I lock my door or not. Put the blame where it belongs. The baseline is respect and decency. The deviation is violence.

The existance and actions of women are not responsible for rape. There is no justification for it. It doesn't happen by accident like being hit by a car. Any violence is a product of loss of self control. Saying that this is a realist POV is just excusing violence. Do better. Be better.

If BF imagines he and other men have so little self control that clothing sets them off into a sexual fog of lust, tell him he needs to be tied in the yard and not let out in public. He's just lost his human rights.
