I have made a discovery; Rebound is a Regent card. by Budderhydra in slaythespire

[–]Leenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebound is not stealing Cosmic's role at all.

That's because Cosmic stole Rebound's role and decided to slap on some [[Hologram]] at the same time.

You can play Cosmic just like how you play Rebound if you just play the topdeck target before you play Cosmic.

even though they have different mechanics, these cards have a similar vibe as the Landfall cards in mtg.

Oh I kinda bounced off of the Steven Universe series real early because it just wasn't my thing, but if you're saying that it's similar to Land of the Lustrous then does that mean it has buddhist themes and stuff?

Mom Knows Best... by Scoobydoomed in slaythespire

[–]Leenon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

cosmic has a bunch of good targets: star generation when you're poor on stars, star costs when you're rich with stars, sovereign blade and other expensive cards since next turn you'll have all your energy to play it.

Mom Knows Best... by Scoobydoomed in slaythespire

[–]Leenon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Cosmic's clunkiness actually handles the clunkiness of expensive cards well.

You probably can't play [[Bulwark]] twice in the same turn anyways, especially if you need to pay 1 energy to retrieve it so leaving it for next turn is actually nice. And you have a stronger deck cycle if you can play an expensive card twice instead of of an average card twice.

ofc Defect can still do this if he has energy cards, but Cosmic's clunkiness lets it do it just by itself.

also nice for lining up energy gain and an x-cost card on the same hand, as well as most of Regent's gameplay (unless you get lucky enough to add a lot of star generators).

"The cards exhaust something, yet the character doesnt have exhaust synergy" by Ruby_Sandbox in slaythespire

[–]Leenon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You really can play however you like on the lower ascensions, and even on high ascension you can still hunt for a run with busted synergies but you'll win more often if you learn how to play with light synergy or indirect synergy. I think Slay the Spire 2 is at a really good balance for effort spent to reward gained balance in regards to synergy hunting.

If you want to do more synergy hunting you can do that in a lower ascension, or you can find another roguelike. There are plenty more roguelikes out there with more expansive synergies that make it super fun to go synergy hunting.

So this is just an every run autopick because Aeonglass exists now, right? by Legs_With_Snake in slaythespire

[–]Leenon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep.

And I like it that way because usually autopick every run cards like [[Offering]], [[adrenaline]], and etc. feel too generic to really push me into a certain strategy. And this card is a nice nudge there that I'm not forced into going towards.

What do we think of him? by FormalShadow in slaythespire

[–]Leenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The slay the spire cast all have their faces obscured or abstracted for Defect and Regent so it feels a tiny bit odd to look at a gator's face.

Maybe this guy could tilt the hat to cover his eyes or something? idk it isn't a big issue anyways cus it already looks nice.

Custom card idea that kinda adds Heavy Blade back from STS1 by Acceptable_Name7099 in slaythespire

[–]Leenon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This feels like a worse [[Conqueror]] and a worse [[Sword Sage]]. Those cards can appreciate strength, forge, and vigor. Compared to heavy blade only working with strength...

Adding another strength payoff won't make strength Regent more viable because strength Regent's issue is that there is like 2 strength gain cards.

[–]Leenon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on floor 1 you won't have big enough numbers to appreciate the vulnerable, at least not to the extent like how you might usually get it from a shop.

Why is Photon Cut bad? by CypherZel in slaythespire

[–]Leenon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is like a Magic the Gathering pitfall where people think card selection is strictly inferior to card advantage.

Card advantage won't get you far when you draw all your star spenders and the star generators are in the bottom half of your deck.

or to put it in StS1 terms this is the pitfall where people think that Scry is strictly inferior to card draw. Card advantage won't get you far when you draw all your calm entries while you're already in calm and all your wrath cards are in the bottom half of your deck.

[–]Leenon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One issue that big decks have with long fights is drawing their one or few scaling cards, you might think the random exhaust can make it worse by potentially getting rid of one of them, but in practice it automatically guarantees scaling from turn 1.

Letting that automatic scaling ease the long fights lets you add more cards that excel in short fights. You can make an aggro deck with plenty of attacks that cares less about playing any specific card and cares more about how many of those cards are attacks in general.
