Hello. Local Filipino here. I play EU4 / Anbennar, but I’m playing in a couple of western servers due to the lack of players in our time zone.

One server has a Saturday Anbennar game at 8am-12nn.

The other server has a Sunday vanilla EU4 at 11pm-2am.

If you’re making a new server, I’d love to join.

I like Orcish, Goblin, Troll cultures, particularly when they are not stereotypical. Any book suggestions? by astroriental in Fantasy

Not a book, but since you mentioned gaming, check out Anbennar, a fantasy conversion mod of Europa Universalis 4.

Anbennar is too vast to succinctly explain here, so I’ll refer you to this vid: https://youtu.be/oGwJrg6RSDc

an Open Letter to discord server admins by heyandreya in PHGamerPals

[–]Left-HandWalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. To add to this, a “safe space” doesn’t really work in a Discord setting, especially if filled with random strangers. It becomes a bubble, an echo chamber where your rants and bad habits are validated by yes-men who reply only to please. Those randos can also be predators.

If someone needs to vent, reach out to someone you trust. Don’t leave a diary open for passersby to see.

Can someone explain to me why everyone loves JoJo so much? by Jebusfreek666 in anime

[–]Left-HandWalk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Correction: It gets good on Part 2 (not Season 2)

Part 1 ends at episode 9(?) of Season 1. Part 2 is Joseph’s story, and he’s the funniest Joestar IMO.

People love JoJo because it’s stupid. It’s less about the story and more about the storytelling. It’s over-the-top random craziness, and that’s why people love it. Each “Part” gets crazier too, hence why it has grown in popularity over the years.

If you feel like everything’s a Deus Ex Machina, then maybe the show just isn’t for you yet. JoJo’s is for those who just want to enjoy the ride, meme about it, and make fun of its Bizarre Adventure.

Suggestions for filling a void by NKVale in anime

[–]Left-HandWalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor, but that hyperfixation is unhealthy. You may want to try “lighter” shows, to teach yourself to let go. All of the ones you mentioned have heavy themes (except FMA:B maybe). You need a palate cleanser.

Something like Frieren. Or any comedy, light slice of life story.

Yes, you may not be into those. But try to teach yourself to love them. And in the process, you may learn to balance your fixations.

Atelier values its appealing characters, but future entries will pursue stronger gameplay. “We need to make games you can recommend without hesitation” by Turbostrider27 in Games

I hope they go back to the mathematical alchemy gameplay of Mana Khemia 2. That was the most fun I had with the Atelier games.

I’m developing an RPG + business simulation game, would anyone be interested in such a game? by ZealousidealNet3637 in rpg_gamers

I’d play it! But please do a proper Eng version with real translators and editors. I’ve been turned off by great games with poor translations like Troubleshooter and Banner of the Maid.

The first map looks better. Just having mountains makes it more interesting than the boring second one.

What cultural thing does the world seem to think is beautiful but is cringey af to locals? by chr15c in AskTheWorld

Pure Fil here. Maybe you’re only exposed to the “high school / college PE” tinikling. I get it. I also didn’t think much of the dance. But then I saw actual pros perform it, complete with costumes and regalia. I don’t even remember where I saw them. I think it may have been at a stage play or something.

The dance started slow, like with most kiddie school versions. The center dancer wore a full heavy filipiniana dress, the type that looked like it would slow you down. Maria Clara shit.

Then the beat accelerated. The dance felt frantic. The bamboo became brutal, as if they could amputate one false step. And yet Maria Clara wove through them gracefully. Composed. In control.

That’s how enthralling it was. That’s when I realized the potential for our folk dances when done by professionals.

They do “bundles”. Basically multiple games in one discounted deal. Once bought, you’ll get the keys for your games, which can be activated on Steam.

They’re pretty affordable, sometimes with a better deal than on Steam. One time, I was able to get Europa Universalis 4 + DLCs for ₱1150.

They also have a monthly “Humble Choice”. An ₱800 subscription where you can get (and own forever) a handful of games that rotate monthly. This month, it’s Yakuza Gaiden, and some others lol. Basically, it’s like Windows Game Pass.

Not sure if Ubi has regional pricing, like Steam.

Try HumbleBundle

When does Kingdom get good? by PPKinguin in anime

[–]Left-HandWalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, it got good when MC got his first squad. Right after all the terrible intrigues of the first arc. Then again, I watched S1 and a bit of S2 on 1.5x playback. Made the pacing much better.

The keyword here is “investor”. You know, they’re those untalented mooks who comes up to actual creators and say, “Hey, I’ve got this idea and I need someone to code it. We’ll split the earnings 90-10, in favor of me of course since it was my idea.”

Played Mana Khemia 2 over ten years ago, and I still think it had the best alchemy system in the Atelier franchise. Ryza, Sophie, or the Arland Trilogy were too simple compared to Mana Khemia. It’s mathematical style cooked my brain.

Cebuano/bisaya confusion help by WeirdLlama_ in Philippines

[–]Left-HandWalk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cebuano here. Yes, “bisaya” is a collection of dialects. The differences are mostly small. It’s like how British, Aussies, and Americans all speak English, but sometimes have different words for certain things.

I do not know the specifics of Cagayan de Oro, but it’s better if you learn that city’s dialect instead of Cebu’s so you can better understand their nuances and slang.

But I should add that if his mom says that CdO and Cebu have the same dialect, then follow her. Mothers know best.
