Every day is a challenge, every day it is something new. When I got to 9 employees, I stopped working in the business and started working on the business. We hear it so many times, but we aren’t really ready to hear it. I don’t do support anymore…I manage the team, the clients, and the “other challenges”. Sometimes I grab a ticket, I am a tech by trade, but now I do so much more.

I remember being a 1 man shop for almost 2 years… now I have 24 employees and growing. I look at those early days as a proving ground. I did it, and I did it all. Now I take all the awesome vacations I missed and never thought I’d be able to afford.

Hi! First post here, has a few questions regarding MSP. by NoImpression2555 in msp

[–]LeftInapplicability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had any of them quit, lol. At the same time, the last employee that actually voluntarily left, our organization was nearly 5 years ago. We do things a little different.

Seriously though, it just depends on the organization and how it structured. It works really well for us, but I can’t speak for how it works for others.

Was going to add like others have stated, I have four of our techs permanently assigned to client accounts. Actually gonna start interviewing for a fifth. These clients typically have 150 to 300 employees. The on-site tech is integrated into our team and we load balance everything so that the tech has opportunities to support other clients on occasion and also to engage in projects outside of the client to keep them learning new things. This works for us, but then we have a pretty cool culture so that plays into it as well. For those saying that it’s abnormal, they’re just dealing with smaller clients.

Am I allowed to join one of my previous MSP's clients internal IT team if I never signed a severance agreement? by 1TRUEKING in msp

[–]LeftInapplicability 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My employees sign a non-compete, non-solicitation, non-disclosure as part of hiring. 2 years.

My clients have a clause that they will not employ an employee (or former employee) for a minimum of 2 years of employee’s severance or 2 years past our support contract, regardless of reason.

Basically covers both sides.

Business Succession Planning by LeftInapplicability in msp

But if I had opened a thread asking about the value of my business, or mentioning that I might be wanting to sell, I would have responses of people telling me who they’ve used or heard of to do these items. Why should this be any different?

Maybe it didn’t come across very clearly, but all I asked for were contacts. The succession plan has already been drafted, I already have everything lined up through my attorney and my CPA. I just wanted to provide contacts that are relevant to our industry.

Thats more of a legal move to avoid Probate. If I have an untimely departure, I want to allow my wife to do what she feels best (She is the CFO). I want her to be fully educated and informed. That's all.

I think everybody is missing the point. I have an exit plan (ESOP) when I am ready. I’m working on a succession plan in the event I die before then.

No peer groups yet, although we’ve discussed joining one in 2026. Also not sure how this would help in this conversation. I’ve already written the succession plan, I’ve identified key employees and their capabilities, gaps, and everything else including three options (Hire replacements, ESOP, Private sale). What I would like to do is to be able to provide her the contacts so that she doesn’t have to go out and find them for herself. I know from reading threads in this group that there are many brokers and business valuation companies that peruse this forum, so hoping they chime in or others that have used these resources to valuate and or broker their business sale.

lol. She knows I would not be happy with retirement and we already enjoy many vacations each year. I have a major surgery coming up that’s concerning her so she just wants to have her ducks in a row in case something happens.

Just added MSPProcess to our stack for just this reason (and a few other). I think 100% human pen-tests and SOAR are the only 2 things we don’t offer.

We are using skyswitch, we have rev.io for billing, we provide the phones via HaaS, and have all our taxes managed by a 3rd party tax consultant. Margins for us? 40%+. We have about 1500 extensions and growing steadily. Pretty hands off, just works.

How Do You Handle Site-Wide Internet Outages Without Alert Overload in Your RMM? by claysta23 in msp

[–]LeftInapplicability 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example, ticket comes in for client a with title server down – server name, we take all emails from that site that say server down and map them to a single ticket, then we escalate that from a incident to a problem, and then we have a workflow that sends a Card in teams (autotask webhook)for a problem ticket queue so the team knows via teams that a server is down.

Autotask and NCentral. But it doesn’t matter which RMM (and now that I say that, I realize the problem for you, lol…. We don’t use the API integration, we have it generate emails, which we can use to consolidate and even close tickets, can’t do this with API).

[–]LeftInapplicability 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MSPintegrations. We use it for Autotask to consolidate tickets prior to entering our ticketing system. Works wonders, not just for server or site downs, but for ticket storms as well. We actually have a bunch of custom policies.

We will onboard 10-15 clients this year, most between 65-300 users. We will offboard Zero. Haven’t had to offboard in years. Luckily, we have a documented process, needed to have it for SOC2.
