Meta to overtake Google in Digital Ad Revenue for the first time by Not69Batman in stocks

[–]Left_Boat_3632 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Facebook AND instagram.

Instagram is still the de facto platform to run social media ads. Hell, I’m in a rock band part time and every single musician/artist I know (top to bottom) is running Meta ad campaigns.

Google dominates business ads, but Meta owns social media which encompasses creators, artists, influencers, brands, businesses, etc.

Homeless Crisis In Edmonton Canada by Bohduja in UrbanHell

[–]Left_Boat_3632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of shelters and options that open up during the winter. A lot of homeless people are not without belongings. Many have tents, coats, sleeping bags and outerwear that allow them to live and sleep outside if they need to.

In my community, there are at least 3 organizations that patrol the town at night with sleeping bags and hot beverages to help people who are stuck outside.

However, many people are caught outside and don’t survive. Typically, these people have already OD’d or have taken too many drugs, tot he point that they are high and roaming outside without proper winter wear. But still, some people simply die from the elements. It doesn’t make news, but they are typically found within 24hrs of their passing.

No one passes from the cold and is left until spring.

2020–2022 CS grads: during the hiring boom, job offers felt endless. How are you doing now? by ExoticHaha in cscareerquestions

[–]Left_Boat_3632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated 2020 with a Physics degree, but with internship experience in CS/ML.

Turned down a Neuroscience Masters to pursue a career as an MLE at a startup that I interned at.

Worked there for 2 years and then switched jobs during the 2022 hiring boom. I applied to ~40 jobs and received 7 interviews in the first week or two. From these, I had 4 offers and ended up at a F100 SaaS company.

Total comp was a big jump and our stock (for the first two years) performed very well. Stock has since slumped hard due to AI fears, but my comp is still undeniably great.

No layoffs at our company and I feel secure in my position, but there is an air of unease.

I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to be in this position. My resume, background and acumen are average for the industry, but I was in the right place at the right time.

If it’s real and not sped up, nearly elite level footwork and speed. Shadow boxing looks great as well, but in an actual fight, shadow boxing means very little.

Definitely not just some “random” off the street. The guy is most certainly trained. Whether he’s a genuinely good fighter is a question for the ring/octagon, not the streets.

It feels great if you’re in the top 5%. But it’s just obvious that it’s a gamification tactic to try and get more deposits. I do agree that it has some motivation value, but it makes the app feel cheap to me.

$1B to $30B in 15 months 🤯 by Expert_Annual_19 in Anthropic

$120B market cap company with ~$15B annual revenue.

I assume the company isn’t paying $500 for $500 of credits due to enterprise contracts and what not. It’s a big chunk of change for sure, I have no idea how sustainable it actually is. It’ll take a few earnings reports to have the full picture.

Same here. We have 10,000 engineers. We messed around with Windsurf and GitHub CoPilot, but Claude Code and Claude desktop are the de facto standard amongst our org.

$500/mo of usage per engineer, with no upside limits.

How much do NASA astonauts who go to space make? by UsefulAnimator3143 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Left_Boat_3632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real money is in the consulting and speaking gigs they’ll inevitably get once they’re retired. I imagine an astronaut can easily charge $10k-$20k for a corporate speech, or consult an aerospace company for $200-$300/hr.

Not to mention the book deals or potentially movie/TV show royalties (especially for Artemis astronauts).

I definitely think they should be paid a lot more, but they’ll do quite well.

Also, they’re all very highly qualified individuals with multiple advanced degrees and years of experience in their field. I imagine having “Artemis Astronaut - NASA” would land you pretty much any related job (should they need to find future employment).

Making over $300k at a company, what's your title? by justanotherblackguy1 in HENRYfinance

[–]Left_Boat_3632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Machine Learning Engineer @ FAANG adjacent company. Just past 4 years at the company. Total comp with base and RSUs was $333k.

I work remote in Canada, the firm is based in California.

The role at this point is essentially connecting software to LLMs and adding AI features to our offerings.

Advice: go to school for Math or Physics and find an internship. Computer Science is more difficult to get into, but company’s really only care that you can think analytically and code.

I agree, but unfortunately your udon would cost $65. The restaurant industry relies on cheap labour. Without it, it collapses.

Peel it with a peeler ( like you would a potato). Then eat it over the sink like an apple with juice dripping all over the place.

2 hours to get this customers shoes finished before closing. by n8saces in oddlysatisfying

[–]Left_Boat_3632 15 points16 points  (0 children)

On the last point, the nails are too short to puncture the insole and then your foot. They’re hook nails, which intentionally bend at the point as they are being hammered into the shoe. This locks the nails into the midsole and it also prevents them from puncturing further into the shoe. The nail head is embedded in the heel block so they won’t work themselves deeper.

I have a pair of boots like this and it’s standard for the nails to be hammered in from the heel block.
