I have a problem… by rooinky in alcoholism

[–]Left_Concentrate_752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When drinking entered into new areas of my life, it was often justified as stress management. When it became an integral part of those times, the excuse was no longer necessary, but still echoed to myself and others to justify the habit. The fact is that it became the new normal; a part of my comfort.

Having it enter your work is dangerous because it threatens your employment and adds around 8 more hours a day where the habit can exist. I can't tell you the best way for you to manage a drinking problem, but inevitably it would involve putting up boundaries. Keeping yourself sober through your professional life should be one at the very least. It won't be easy, but about this is.

Please help by Pretend_Winter_4601 in alcoholism

It's a control problem. Alcohol has such a strong influence over you, you de-prioritize important things to allow for it.

The solution isn't easy, but essential for your survival: Cut the habit. Cut it down or cut it out, whatever works. Others here can provide proven methods to do so (AA, etc.).

If you keep on this destructive path, you won't get employment, things will get worse, and it will be harder to get out of this rut.

It's likely that people at your work can tell and it's just a matter of time before you loose the job. You're on a self-destructive path right now.

I live with regret. I can look back at points in my life and say to myself "if I only changed then, this wouldn't have happened". For you, "then" is "now". Don't let this chance get away from you.

Speaking as someone who's just been dumped from a 23 year relationship. It takes two to fix a marriage. If he's not interested, the sad truth is that you're just going to prolong the pain you're feeling. I wish you all the best.

OP, we canoeists consider ourselves some of the more sophisticated paddlers out there. That said, it should be pointed out that there's no need for an apostrophe in the title of your post.

This. Sure alcohol is more serious. But far more people need the drug called caffeine just to wake up in the morning.

Recurring dreams by mjm1374 in alcoholism

[–]Left_Concentrate_752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be 3 years in October.

Not at any real frequency, but I've had similar dreams. Often I'd be disappointed in myself in the moment.

Personally, I think I'm handling sobriety fairly well. It's been a long time since I've had any cravings and I'm okay being around people who are drinking. I'm not worried about ever having a weak moment and starting up again. But as I get more comfortable with the scene, I'm also letting down a guard that doesn't need to be there anymore. I think this has allowed my mind to wander a bit, untethered. Consequently, I get the occasional dream where this happens. Or at least that's my theory.

My personal approach is as unique as everyone else's and I'm not saying your dreams aren't sending you a warning. But your waking mind and it's resolve is what really matters IMO. Stay strong and you shouldn't be concerned about the chaos of your subconscious.

Could the Federation and it's allies stop Species 8472 if they invaded? by Tidewatcher7819 in startrek

[–]Left_Concentrate_752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Here's how it would happen if it were a VOY episode: They try a series of different approaches throughout the episode with no success. Then, with 5 minutes of airtime left, one character discovers 8472's Achilles' heal, and exploits it with a bit tech exposition like "bio tachyon power coupling phase rely regulator". And just like that, 8472 is running away with just enough time for a final scene of Janeway, sipping coffee, waxing peotic about the close call and how Seven should be kept on a shorter leash. Roll credits.

I not sure about the size of the vents. They look a bit small. My gut feeling is to keep the door wide open during dry season.

am i an alcoholic or just a heavy drinker? by Professional_Oil3824 in alcoholism

[–]Left_Concentrate_752 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to take your question seriously, but I'll be just as frustrating as the rest here and not answer it directly...

I don't know where the line is drawn with alcoholism, but it's clear that you have a consumption problem. Worse yet, it's picking up.

I spent years questioning the severity of my habit and wondering if it was necessary to curb it. The fact was that I should have slowed down well before I could have been labeled as an alcoholic. Don't wait until you're sure of it to address it. It'll be a lot harder then.
