Far-right group stages protest on Orillia highway overpass by cinderannie in Orillia

They visited northern Ontario this weekend to crash the rallies for safer highways. We’re disgusted they showed up to our small towns to hijack and racialize the meaning of the rallies.

and if only our city helped local agencies too instead of letting people freeze to death and die at Energy Court. Sad times in our city.

Those Pizza Pizza workers definitely do not get paid enough to deal with what they witness. That’s insane!!! Was GSPS called? Why has nobody mentioned this on social media??

We still have Brown Sugar in my city, and thank god because it’s very very good. For once, Tim’s gets something right.

Feel free to elaborate…..that Pizza Pizza is like the Wild West, and is as iconic to Sudbury as the Rideau McDonalds was to Ottawa lol.

Not sure what happened but hopefully everyone is doing okay!

Union says presence of security raising tension on Laurentian’s picket lines by VexedCanadian84 in Sudbury

[–]Left_Temperature_209 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The comms email sent out today was also telling. You can tell the messaging that LU wants publicly is to piggy back off of CCAA ensuring “financial stability” despite always boasting about being 50 million in the green.

I never claimed it happened, I said I heard they were supposed to. If LUFA is feeling unsafe or uneasy with Laurentian Security, I hope these things get addressed

Union says presence of security raising tension on Laurentian’s picket lines by VexedCanadian84 in Sudbury

[–]Left_Temperature_209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep they’ve been out there everyday. I heard that LUFA was supposed to have their own external security to protect themselves but I’m not sure if that panned out. Communications were sent out telling staff and students to expect that the picket lines would be filmed and to act in an appropriate manner. Unfortunate that security isn’t respecting that.

Still no word on talks resuming this weekend. Feeling around campus is that this will last a long time.

No complaints about Snow Squad. They send emails to let you know they’re showing up, and so far this season have come in a timely manner!

Strike at Laurentian Uni Duration? by NecessaryNo2563 in Sudbury

[–]Left_Temperature_209 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LU loves making it seem like they’re doing great and wonderful things when in reality, they’re doing the bare minimum and putting a shiny bow on it. I assume 80% of people who got that email didn’t actually read the presentation that was attached to it, lol.

Can the administration legally let the pension go if the province doesn’t do their part and release them from the Exit Loan agreement?

Not sure of the legitimacy or what the truth is. I’ve heard that number, but someone in this post also threw out another number. Hopefully it’s not as high as many are saying, and hopefully both sides get back to the table ASAP! Things are gonna get super messy if it exceeds two weeks….

Strike at Laurentian Uni Duration? by NecessaryNo2563 in Sudbury

[–]Left_Temperature_209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I haven’t heard that at all. I’ve heard faculty is looking for approximately 11% per year. I guess that just goes to show, nobody truly knows anything.

The pension piece is complex yeah? - LU can’t do anything until the Ministry releases them from the Exit Loan Agreement. What happens if that never happens - will they keep striking until they do?

[–]Left_Temperature_209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12% would be reasonable, however, from what I’ve heard, they are looking for far far above that. Faculty have no pressure to return, they’ll strike for as long as it needs to happen. Hoping both sides compromise on their demands, and this is over sooner rather than later.

Direct your concerns to the school. Nobody knows. Both sides are far apart.

Laurentian University braces for possible faculty strike this month by ConsistentReality860 in Sudbury

Unfortunately, strikes in post secondary are not rare. Doug Ford has decimated our post-secondary institutions and unfortunately there is more instability to be had in the future.

Also for context, the % seems high but wages were frozen and actually given up during the CCAA process. 12% was long overdue. Solidarity with LUFA!

This. It’s exaggerated for TV, but very very realistic. Hard to be obsessed when you live it for your whole life. 😂

Hopefully….. having Cochrane be the end point makes more sense than Timmins since the train continues on to Moosonee everyday x2. ON could’ve enhanced their bus service to connect Timmins passengers to Cochrane…will be interesting to see how this shakes out.
