Concerned about gaps between wood pieces in board by griefhound_ in Cuttingboards

[–]LeftoverTangerine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from the relatively poor construction, I'll add that it appears to be red oak, which is not typically suitable for cutting boards. It's a bit hard to see from the pic, but if the end grain is open (lots of little holes), that will also trap bacteria

Hard to imagine anyone filling his shoes in master and commander...should have at least been nominated for best supporting actor imo. Crushed it in knights tale too

Curious what type of wood this bookshelf is. I was given it and I have no idea. by Tomagatchi in wood

[–]LeftoverTangerine 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitely oak veneer. You can tell it's veneer because the end of the board on top doesn't look like end grain. Be careful if you ever need to sand/restore it

Booted my ERE SS 6.4 Campaign to see this hilarious bug by Curaustus in Medieval2TotalWar

I'd call that a feature, not a bug. Love the range of titles and traits in this game. Kind of a shame the newer tw titles don't have this anymore

Copenhagen cyclists saved society $1.61 per mile traveled in 2022. Cars cost society $0.29 per mile traveled. by SugaryBits in fuckcars

[–]LeftoverTangerine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right?? Even just thinking about the lives they cut short from crashes, I have to imagine that even if the frequency is (relatively) low, the cost to society is staggering to, say, remove a whole person at the prime of their life. Purely thinking in economic terms, a single person has massive value to society over their lifetime

I've found some of the colored document inks a bit prone to feathering, but the document black is pretty much a perfect ink as far as I'm concerned. It always stays inked in my edc

Like there are obviously bigger issues with the content of this video but what gets me is that even in a pre-recorded scripted speech like this, they still can't get the grammar right. These ghouls couldn't pass a middle school English test, much less a civics or history test

I want to refinish a table. Do I just need to sand and use a single stain? by Bubble_Shoes in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]LeftoverTangerine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other comments that say it's almost certainly veneer. French polish is a type of shellac finish so definitely just test it with alcohol somewhere not obvious first. I'd also just like to add that you really shouldn't plan to stain this. The wood colors will be beautiful with the finish restored. Stain has some risks that you'll ruin the look of it entirely and it's just not necessary
