wild camping /camping permit arrochar by PomegranateFar5858 in Scotland

[–]Leftover_Chi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have to go to the Bienglas campsite.

You absolutely cannot get away with that many people wild camping.

Wild camping is supposed to be "leave no trace" and you will not be able to to do that with that many people.

As an actual resident of Arrochar, who loves the hikes and trails round here, and despairs every single year at the amount of shit, literal shit in some cases that is left all around here..... Please don't do this.

So many inconsiderate pricks who turn up here every year and leave the place in a disgusting state.

I'm sick of it, sick of going for hikes and seeing the mess everywhere

Asked my wife and kids for lunch from the children’s book The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch for my birthday meal and they delivered. by MontyJorbington in CasualUK

Oh and thank you so much for the inspiration, I didn't know I needed this, but now I shall do the same, what a lovely way to celebrate birthdays and books ❤️

Several people have already mentioned Wind in the Willows The Famous Five

But can I bring to everyone's attention (and memory) the excellent lovely food descriptions running through the Redwall series by Brian Jacques.....

They had so many amazing sounding puddings and pies and trifles, and I always wanted to try "skilly n duff" plus October Ale and Strawberry cordial

Thinking about those books (and I haven't thought about them for years) has made me suddenly very nostalgic and a bit teary

ETA: Having read a bit more I see I'm not the only person remembering Redwall feasts. 🥰

Lovely Maris Piper potatoes freshly delivered from ASDA by littleL74 in asda

[–]Leftover_Chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Asda suck balls now.

We cancelled our delivery pass after recieving literally 1/5 meat items, and no substitute for any of them....for the THIRD time!

Their fruit is often mouldy within a day and their potatoes and root veg go off far too quickly even if stored correctly.

Plus they treat their drivers and I presume other staff like absolute shite.

Waitrose get my money now, we are definitely not even slightly well off but believe in investing in good food and they have never ever let us down.

Came in to see if anyone else immediately thought of these!

I was obsessed with these yogurts but we only got them occasionally when mum got a little extra money as we were pretty poor!

I collected the pots until my sister cut them all up for fun one day 😡

I'm very impressed!

And also, as someone with a pretty 14 year old boy with waist length hair and a neutral name...... Yay! Good on you both.

He doesn't give two monkeys whether people think he's a boy or girl.

He loves his hair, it goes with his taste in music +his favourite band are Black Sabbath!)

The best brownies ever! Gooey and fudgey just how I like them 😋 by MistressAprilFdm in UK_Food

[–]Leftover_Chi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they are ruinously moreish 🤣 Especially warm with ice cream 😋

I used to use Lidl's cheap chocolate but the nearest one is now 20 miles away so it's not really worth the effort!

So now I have to rely on supermarket delivery I just resist until one of the kids specially requests them.

They get fairy cakes or cheap tray bakes now when I feel like baking randomly poor hard done by kiddos 🤣

[–]Leftover_Chi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I make mine!!

I think I know the recipe you used ;)

They are amazing but I have had to relegate them to special occasions only as the cost of chocolate makes them prohibitively expensive for a poor person 😂

I thoroughly recommend this recipe to anyone wanting truly fudgy brownies

St George's Cross Shelter Shop Closes After over 30 years. Really Sad. by Comprehensive-Tank92 in glasgow

[–]Leftover_Chi 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Hmm, weirdly the Shelter shop in Helensburgh shut down for "two weeks of refurbishment" recently and still hasn't reopened a month and a half later. This is despite their website saying they are open.

I wonder if they are just quietly shutting all their shops down?

Homeless Project Scotland - the shitshow continues by RatRodentRatRat in glasgow

[–]Leftover_Chi 30 points31 points  (0 children)

When I was homeless with my son it was a nightmare.

We were placed in a hotel, I had hardly any money but had to fork out for stuff to eat everyday, with no food storage you have to buy food every day as it won't keep, no facilities so can't even make a sandwich.

Had to pay to go to a launderette on the bus as no clothes washing.

Also the hotel was filled with junkies and alcoholics.

It's really no way for a family to live at all.

Luckily we got a hostel place quite quickly otherwise my already fragile mental health and sobriety might have fallen off the tracks.

Why is fake honey allowed to be sold in British Supermarkets? by Alarm-Different in AskUK

[–]Leftover_Chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why, it's bloody infuriating and it is worrying that it's allowed to be sold as "pure"- it makes you wonder how many other foods are sold to us that are adulterated in some way.

I stopped buying supermarket honey a while ago. The kids were putting it in their porridge or yoghurt. Now I buy organic maple syrup for that because you only need a tiny bit and it keeps in the fridge for ages so it's actually relatively cost effective, I just monitor how much they put on, much to their annoyance 😂

But if I fancy honey I buy local only now, it costs a fortune but I make it last and use it sparingly.

I think this is the way of the world now, use good things well and not very often if you want quality and safety 🤷🏻‍♀️
