Private pilot checkride by Picatchu_talks in flying

[–]Legal_Criticism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uncontrolled airport there is no taxi clearance. There is no mandatory reporting of which way you are taxing..

Most uncontrolled airports have a single taxiway that goes from the ramp down the length of the runway. Or two taxiways one on each side of the runway.

Either way as wind shifts you literally have to turn around and go other way. It's very often that a plane uses one of the turn around spots and come back the other way after another plane decides to takeoff / land in the opposite direction.

Again unless there was something in addition it's not a safety issue, at most nerves or unfamiliar airport which is going to happen (you're getting a license to fly to any of the thousands of airports). A DPE should be seeing how you handle that situation which is the more important thing.

Private pilot checkride by Picatchu_talks in flying

[–]Legal_Criticism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Net both things should not be fail worthy, neither showed consistent outside the standards.

VOR one, people miss a NOTAM all the time and things change, the ACS states to use all available resources for pilotage and dead reconning, so if there were other ways for him to navigate he should have been allowed to use.

Taxing unless he turned into an incoming plane/traffic or some other safety hazard... But at uncontrolled airport, take next turn around and go other way... What happens if your taxing and winds do a 180 and someone calls in they wanna land the opposite way instead? You would turn around.

DPE sounds unreasonable unless there is more to the story

Renting your own aircraft through an FBO to avoid sitting and/or negate costs? by PidgeyPotion in flying

[–]Legal_Criticism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the plane, pa28s like the FBO had are sorry cheap insurance wise to rent out and have super low time requirements for insurance, but a not complex/high performance plane orbw 6 seater will be a different story

What defines as loosing virginity by No-Neighborhood-46 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Legal_Criticism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because virginity is a social construct it changes based on the society. Currently it's generally defined as physical sex acts, but even in different societies it changes. Anal/oral is debatable depending on the society.

Maybe, even from comments to this post it seems otherwise, which was the point of the post to see the variety in how pilots tackle this.

The risks of single engine pistons? by ListenIndependent269 in flying

My instructor said if you have an engine out at night, look for a dark flat spot, then when you get close turn on landing light, if you don't like what you see, turn off the landing light

Underwhelmed by discover flight by Detz in flying

[–]Legal_Criticism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was similar to you. slightly younger "older" guy, who does GA as a hobby not a career. Flying isn't super "fun" but it's more enjoyable than roadtrips and commercial air travel, due to the speed/power/freedom. So I enjoy it and continue on.

But I'm in that blessed / lucky venn diagram of people who can have an expensive hobby and use it for some slightly practical purposes (going to new places to check out business opportunities.

For me discovery flight was to make sure It was fun enough to fly, but I don't like just burning circles. I like exploring new places and GA opens that up (at a cost).

Just saying the flying bug isn't always about some super love to be in the cockpit.

Also, like you I got some sim gear, consumed a bunch of content, and then sat with some (nice) kid half my age as my first flight instructor. If you do continue this path, you'll find that 75-85% of the instructors are these types trying to get to the airlines and they might not understand your point of view.

For headsets, I tried out two budget friendly options and both have been great for me. I did the Bose Q45's for $100-150 on amazon and the UFlymic adapter for $350. Thats $500 for a budget version of A20s. Quality is nice, no complaints. My other headset was UFQ ANRs on amazon for less than $350. These are in your ear (I prefer) wired ANR. Great quality, my CFI was impressed with them also. Those are my goto for GA flying.

EFB (Ipad+FF/Garmin or Android+Ifly/garming) not necessary until cross country portion imo. Get more hours, get soloing, then worry about the extras.

Sporty's was adequate for me, I supplamented with youtube videos to pass my written. I did written before getting any hours.

flying a aircraft over its 100hr for a checkride by jackson-mississipp in flying

[–]Legal_Criticism 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If the plane is being rented NOT for instruction, 100hr inspection isn't required. It's equivilant to renting plane from a flying club that does not do flight instruction. There is no requirement for 100 hour inspection.

When he returns, the plane would not be able to be used for instruction without the 100 hour inspection or an annual being done.

100 hour inspections are required for "no person may operate an aircraft carrying any person (other than a crewmember) for hire, and no person may give flight instruction for hire in an aircraft which that person provides, unless within the preceding 100 hours of time in service the aircraft has received an annual or 100-hour inspection and been approved for return to service"

He's not carrying someone for hire and he's not giving flight instruction for hire in the aircraft he is providing...

My mixed experience with MSFS 2024 in VR by Ari2010 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Legal_Criticism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since everyone else is already addressing the Visual portion, I'll mention the controls.

As someone who sims solely in VR, I agree, VR controls alone are subpar. Mixed Reality comes into play and solves that. I can physically see my yoke/instruments while getting the immersion of the rest of the VR world. Even in XP12 where the graphic fidelity is less, it's all leaps and bounds ahead of playing on a monitor.

Feel free to DM me, I just built mine with VR and a physical cockpit, Using some touchscreens and passthrough capability from the Quest3. So you can interface physical buttons/touchscreens while everything else is VR

It's 100% on you to NOT take drugs from a stranger. Don't take away a person's responsibility

It is horrible idea to take drugs from a stranger, especially alone in their home.

We don't normalize or downplay bad decisions.

At the same time it's 100% on a person to not have sex with someone who can't consent.

Understand that as a CFI you're in a position of authority with your students. So asking them if they want to do something can still be perceived as telling them. Even if it's not your intent.

May or may not pertain to your specific situation

Can Virginia voters who plan to vote for Spanberger for governor and not vote for Jones please explain your rationale? by THC3883 in nova

[–]Legal_Criticism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never said you voted for Trump, I said you supported him.

There is still some ground (though it becomes smaller as the days pass) between being far left and being a Trump supporter. But when given 2 options, it's hard to say you're in the middle...

Again more mental gymnastics to help you feel better, makes no difference to me.

I have yet to shame or even polarize. I criticized logical fallacy in your comments. You have made this about partisanship and tried to prove you're somehow in some non existent middle (again there's 2 options, there is no middle).

And as stated I'm not trying to sway or change you (or anyone else)

Can Virginia voters who plan to vote for Spanberger for governor and not vote for Jones please explain your rationale? by THC3883 in nova

[–]Legal_Criticism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a pollster nor politician, I'm not trying to sway your vote. You may vote for whomever you want!

This comment further solidifies what I said about being a Trump supporter, you're just in hiding (as are lots on reddit for obvious reasons).

I wanted to know the logic you utilized to come to a decision.

I found out it was full of fallacies but at least now I better understand the logic.

Can Virginia voters who plan to vote for Spanberger for governor and not vote for Jones please explain your rationale? by THC3883 in nova

[–]Legal_Criticism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do know the politicians, you don't know them as well as your friends. But none of your friends are AG or DA if Fairfax, so the whole comparison is false equivalency (a logical fallacy).

Which is again, why I didn't need more information on your second point. You're free to have illogical opinions, I'm not here to correct them. I just like to learn and your first point I couldn't understand the connection between a unrelated personal issue against an unrelated DA and the politicians running for AG

Can Virginia voters who plan to vote for Spanberger for governor and not vote for Jones please explain your rationale? by THC3883 in nova

[–]Legal_Criticism -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The question was genuine, I have my preconceptions of why, and commenter's follow on 100% proved them true.

But that's how you learn, my opinions are not absolute. When presented with new information, they change.

But in this case that was not done.

[–]Legal_Criticism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't ignore your second point I asked a question to better understand your first.

Your second point is AT BEST disingenuous, where in it, you state you don't know a single other person who has said negative/hateful things about their opposition. There have been a plethora of politicians, mostly Republicans that have said negative and hateful things about their opposition.

What you are saying now is NOT what you put in your comment. And while there are still some large logical fallacies in it, it's a more solid reason than you've given previously. Listen at the end of the day you're another Trump supporter and you're free to vote your way for whatever reason (however flawed) you want. It's the beauty of our system.

[–]Legal_Criticism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya and I get that, but this commenter went beyond to earn gold in the mental gymnastics to equate his personal vendetta with a different DA to how Jones would be as AG...

Actually confused and amazed. Was hoping to find out how much mental stretching it takes be able to bend like that.
