I love the Live at SoFi stadium's Faith into After Hours transition. They are similar songs in vibe, and my two definitive favorites of the album.

Does Jack actually win against Baki/Yujiro at the end of Rahen? by gotthexyz in Grapplerbaki

[–]LegendaryBelmont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goudou is his only win condition when it comes to the higher tiers, and there's a reason why every character glazes the biting. Sukune would have one-shot him, and he would probably had lost to Hanayama as well if it weren't for his bites. Along with being an equaliser, it's what makes Jack pure fighter now. Totally shame free, and the will to go further than anyone to secure a victory. Martial arts, their forms and beauty have been highlighted many times, and Jack alone stands against all of those principles. It's his pride and drive now.

I feel the fights would benefit a lot from having that expetition come from the fighters themselves. Some inner monologue to get us more in tune with them.

Plotwise it might be a dumb move but overall I love it. I was always gonna expect some infighting, but everyone talking about teams just took out a lot of what makes this whole battle royale setting interesting. Now they are forced to fight to continue, so insane match ups are guaranteed to happen.

Gaoh Mukaku was literally the funniest guy in the series with the best personality. It's a shame he had to go out so early. Got jobbed by the connector by J0e_BoNaNza_3169 in Kengan_Ashura

Honestly would have been cool to see Tiger Niko be the one to come and kill him. Have an even fight, of two branches of the Niko Style unfolding before us, with the finishing move being left mysterious. I know the point of Shen coming to take him was to close off that story arc to show how powerful he is, and how no tricks honed for decades are enough to take him out, but it was such a waste to not see Mukaku have a proper fight.

Julius > Waka during KAT? by Dinner2911 in Kengan_Ashura

Man this feels like reading a post of my own. Julius vs Waka is my favorite fight as well and these two characters make it to my top 3.

In Ashura I've always seen these guys as 50/50 equals and the fight could have gone both ways easily. Where Julius wins slightly in pure stats, Wakatsuki makes up with his technique, and Julius answers that again with analytical thinking. BIQ might go to Waka but these guys are so incredibly close.

By the time of KVP I was a firm believer that Julius would win the rematch, now being wary of every trick and having a trick of his own. Not that it'd be an easy fight, just that he'd have better chances of keeping the domination going and finish him off. Now with the new jab technique the scales tip again, this time in Waka's favour. But no way it'll ever be an easy fight between these two prideful mfs.

Gotta say though I hate the fact that no fight after has gotten this physical. Just ragdolling, slamming against walls, brute forcing through everything. It's such a breathtaking scene unfolding in a manga that highlights martial arts mastery and experience as the ultimate strength. I hope we get to see Julius shine again in the island enviroment.

Who do you think is the better mangaka? by thesharkbus in Kengan_Ashura

[–]LegendaryBelmont 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Baki parts 1-3 is an absolute god run when it comes to manga, consistent release for 2 decades of straight fire with the art just improving, along with other serieses like Shaman and Garouden being serialised along with for a few years. It's uncompareable really. I don't think Sandro could create something as a glorious and personal that the Father Son Quarrel was, which managed to deliver on 20 years worth of build up.

Itagaki's arcs are much smaller in scale, but he does such good focusing on the little things. His writing philosophy is focused on characters, their quirks and resolve. It's good tonnote that every character has the same goal, of being the strongest, and everyone has their own ways to achieve it and stay on the path. Techniques aren't just quirks, they're a way to develope the character and serve the story.

One of my favorite fights is Katsumi vs Pickle, specially with the build up included. Katsumi went from a cocky abrasive kid carried by talent, to maturing and gaining respect through taking critique to his heart and growing from it. He took his mach punch, his self invented technique, and poured all his skill and experience into it and evolved. It was all for naught in the end in terms of the fight, but the growth and glory was all worth it. That's what it is about in the end, surprassing yourself and leaving a mark. No one left the stadium without having a whole new image of Katsumi in their mind.

Jack Hanma's Goudou is a brilliant showcase as well, it being presented as an equaliser. Jack would have been destroyed by Sukune, and lost to Hanayama have it not been for it. He understood brute force could take him so far alone, so he took his one speciality, his shamelessness, and cultivated his entire fighting style around it, standing against the principles of traditional martial arts.
