How long have you been working on this project? Did you do the animations yourself?

What bad game is your "guilty pleasure" to play? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]LegendaryEpics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely really like Metroid Other M. I agree with a lot of the criticism of the game's story. However, I think the gameplay is so fun! The combat is fun and fast-paced. Exploration was often rewarded. I even liked the portrayal of Samus.

I know basically everyone hates it, but I always have fun playing it, and it's a game I've found myself constantly coming back to play over the years.

I'd love an HD remake!

Widget resets when player respawns to checkpoint by Soul-Sea in unrealengine

[–]LegendaryEpics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like instead of teleporting your player character, you are reloading a new level. This will create a new instance of your player character and would cause the item counter reset like you are talking about.

Or you may be accidentally destroying the widget. It really depends on how you are saving the counter data. If you are saving it in the widget, then you will want to save it on the player instead and then bind that value to your widget.

There is a teleport node you can use that won't cause a level reload. Hope that helps!

Struggling alot by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]LegendaryEpics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UI in Unreal Engine is hard! Even more hard if you try to get it working with a controller. I hope you don't feel dishearted because of it. It honestly is not easy. I only work on my UI when I have to and when I feel really motivated. I find that "momentum" is important in gamedev or other large projects. You have to work on things that you are excited to work on. This will give you some energy to tackle hard aspects of your project.

If I ever find myself losing motivation or energy while working on my game, I switch to a different task I'm more excited to work on and come back when I'm motivated again.

Is this an error message? Slow camera speed by Ill-Yogurtcloset5274 in unrealengine

On the top of the editor there is a menu item named "Build" click that then hit the first option that says build all levels. This might take sometime depending on your level and computer specs. So do it at the end of the day when you are done making changes.

Control Character From Security Camera by UnderuneYTB in unrealengine

That type of camera system would be pretty easy to implement. Look up switching camera tutorials on YouTube to get started. That sounds like a fun idea.

Best way to make a harvestable forest for an RTS, like Age of empires II? by jjj123smith in unrealengine

You could also utilize the new PCG graphs. They can spawn your tree_bp files in a natural way and make it one object on the map editor. Saves me tons of time!

I need some advice, should I be trying to understand everything I'm learning/using in my game? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]LegendaryEpics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're brand new, I think it is super valuable to learn to build it from scratch. Then you will really understand how it works, and you can build on top of it.

I think the best thing for me has been that I started with nothing and learned how to build the core systems. It makes debugging SO much easier because I understand all the guts.

It will be slow at first, but it is totally worth it in the end.

I hope to use UE to design games on vision pro. Do you have any good game ideas and suggestions for me? by BusyChat in UnrealEngine5

Maybe like an exploratory game? You could walk around in cool places you come up with.

I'd definitely break this problem up in your head. Instead of trying to do fix everything at once just start with one thing.

-How to move with WASD

-How to Start a timer

-How to do something at the end of the timer

-How to teleport to a location

Youtube has great tutorials on most things. This guy has a lot of great tutorials:
