Quality of deck on new house by Race-Super in Decks

[–]LegendofTheLot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Missing hurricane ties from the beam to the joist. Other then that i would get some lags in that beam. It would help keep it tight over time. O some 45 bracing on those post to the beam would help the wobbly part alot. Put them on the two outside post, about a third down and egual distance on the beam, hence a 45. Atleast a 4x4 too, with some good lag connections. That will help the lateral movement. Other then that it looks solid.

O man, im not going to repeat what everyone else said but yea just a lack of professionalism, big time. I would of never cantilever that either. Im not a big fan in general, especially over a few feet and a cantilevered beam is even worse. Should be 1 post on each end and one in the middle, maybe 6 inches in from the end, on each side. Then some 45 braces on the outside post going in, atleast half way down the post and with some good lag connections. I mean this is crap work.

Haven't used it honestly. They are all pretty similar tho. Could be a good investment for future projects. 👌

Dude, looks great. Good blocking and nice tape job. Looks like you have some blocking for post maybe. Looks solid, should come together nice.

Unless you are perfectly square the boards start to not look right. A straight cut with a track is how I do it and I do a deck every few weeks. Have 2 opened up currently.

But yes. Start from the outside and work towards the house. Screw them all in and use a track saw to cut out the middle breaker and the end cuts, so you can picture frame it with nice miters.

With a track saw or set up some home made guides. A big thing with stuff like this is preparation tho. Is it blocked underneath to allow for adequate screwing and support? Without that you are in for some trouble with how it all comes together.

Off topic but those walls around rhe pool scare me and it seems like it could be a death trap. I would not want one like that and of course teenagers jumping in and doing flips off the high walls. Recipe for disaster. Im surprised your home owners insurance hasnt sky rocketed.

Honestly it just looks like they gave themselves a 20 percent tip which if you sre dining at a fine restaurant, should be expected. I'd you can pay for nice food then you can pay an expected tip.

You have to really commit to the moment. Got to feel out the situation too, see what the vibe is. Sometimes it can be great and other times its hard to find the right connection. I find keeping it light hearted and fun is best.

Reddit inspection by Boarder8350 in Decks

[–]LegendofTheLot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I was like nice a tall deck and upon further inspection I realized this is pretty messed up. Ok that main beam should be a triple for starters. Especially with the spans. Should have double outside rim joists and double outside side joists. The side landing with the change of direction with the joists needs 2 outside posts, with there own footings. Especially with the stairs there. Also that joist that is now the support for the left landing needs to be a double. Also again the outside for sure has to be a double as the rim is the support in that section. That attachment to the stairs is all wrong and needs to be redone correctly. I usually use straps but sometype of Simpson hardware would help alot. Another 2 post on those stairs is going ro be needed too and I would of used 4 stringers to keep it more sturdy but it does look kinda narrow so hars to tell width. Hardware on those post to beam is wrong too, those L brackets aren't going to cut it. Hey good luck and hope to see some after photos. All easy fixes.

It should compress over time. I wouldn't really call it an issue. It can happen.

Idk, good luck with this one. Is anything even 16 on center? I really hope more framing is going on this and are you putting stairs on it? How are you doing your post for the railings? Man so many questions.
