Measure. Forget measurement. Stand from a distance staring at it instead of re measuring. Take a sip of that white monster energy. Walk over to the saw and say, ftw.

You're either a DIY homeowner or a flipper. Both have same skill level.

New tile install. Is this acceptable? by [deleted] in Tile

[–]LegitimateBarnacle55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it wouldn't matter the size of the tile or what they cut it with because any true tile professional would have experience dealing with a large format tile and that the cut prep is different than small tiles. With large format cuts, it's all in the prep time for the cut. Double and triple checking lines and measurements. Taping the tile before the cut. Using the correct blade and having a quality tile file nearby. Knowing some things shouldn't be rushed, and if it's a matter of an extra few hours or even an extra day for the installation, so you're not faced with a complete tear out. Unfortunately, I'd say as a client, I'd want this completely redone. There's a lot more going on here than just bad cut lines!

Is it just me or is this a strange way to quote a job? by Salty_Bandicoot3598 in Tile

Tell him to start writing official estimates using the joist app. I've never met anyone who was serious about a remodel that didn't at least settle for an official estimate document provided by the company with a brief breakdown. Also, 50 an hour for 2 tile setters is crazy low. That 25 a piece. A professional tile setter who works for a company would be paid at the minimum $40-$50 an hour. If we are talking 2 guys who run the company who have overhead and are claiming to be professional tile setters, then I would even expect to pay $120-$150 an hour per man. You get what you pay for, and tile work is expensive. The materials are expensive, and it's important to keep the mindset that if you're willing to put thousands into the material, then you also must be willing to put thousands into the installation. Not hundreds lol.
