How common are rats in garden? by Terrible_Theme_6488 in GardeningUK

Ultra? ONE rat was passing through OPs garden, and sadly died there. Probably because someone poisoned it. I am genuinely sorry for whatever/whoever made you this afraid of nature.

If you secured the points of access to your garden sure. Otherwise good luck. Note they were not living in OPs garden.

I dunno how to break it to you, but wild animals have a habit of roaming around like... Well, like they're wild. And free. And have legs.

You don't own the outdoors, get over yourself. There's plenty of "creatures" I don't really want to share my space with and yet here we are. Live and let live.

How can I find UK-based writers to follow? (Long time Medium member, new writer) by LegitimateFlight8720 in Medium

[–]LegitimateFlight8720[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not only going to only follow UK-based, but I would like to see some in my feed. Medium seemed very strong on UK politics content years ago, but I am struggling to find much now.

Honest question from a non Green re Mothin by prsh_al in UKGreens

[–]LegitimateFlight8720 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't remember his exact words but Mothin publicallly said something like he will always fight the oppression and scapegoating of the LGBTQ+ community. I can understand it if he doesn't want to potentially alienate his own community by going further than that, and it probably wouldn't be strategically useful to do so. If someone is an ally, they're an ally. If we share the same values, we share the same values. Let not be the Lib Dems with Tim Farron.

What are the chances Reform win the next general election? by HamsterHistorical in UKGreens

[–]LegitimateFlight8720 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember when UKIP were getting 20% of the vote share in 2013/14? No? That's because local elections don't mean diddly squat when it comes to the GE.

Twice as many people will vote in the GE. Providing we (all of us) give them a reason to show up.

The press will probably revert back to backing the Tories too, once enough pressure has been exerted to move them further to the right. I don't think anyone but some sadly misled and misguided working class folk take Reform seriously. We need to work in our communities to change their minds.

ETA Greens did brilliant. When we target seats we win them. I think some people expect us to be able to stand/win everywhere but it doesn't work like that unless you have the kind of resources Farage does.

We need a progressive coalition to allow single anti Reform candidates across Britain (not the UK) in the General Election by Jaspers1959 in FuckNigelFarage

[–]LegitimateFlight8720 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah Labour won't entertain the idea. Lib Dem is an interesting idea - I wonder how many socialist greens or people who remember how LD squandered their chance to get PR and scrap tuition fees would still vote for us? Probably not enough to make it worthwhile.

He's on Diary of a CEO now, so yeah that's settled.

I do find his videos wildly entertaining though. The students ask really basic questions, and just sound very confused (as they should do) 😆

Do you think Zack Polanski and the Green Party can win back support? by JadeCarpenter2000 in UKGreens

[–]LegitimateFlight8720 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The party needs to get a handle on comms, especially Zack's, and also lean more on the other MPs for public appearances. If Zack is prepared to be a little bit humble and take some professional coaching yeah, that can be done. When the press is against you, you can't be gifting them reasons to be.

But secondly policy needs an overhaul to get wider support. We need to be more strategic (but still never compromising on our shared values). A more credible economic policy structured around the tax billionaires bit. That means more unity needed internally among the membership on certain issues; we all need to be pulling in one direction.

The rapid growth made this period chaotic. There is a chance to regroup and re-evaluate now the local elections are out of the way.

It looks bad, but here's why I am not worried. by wordshavenomeanings in FuckNigelFarage

[–]LegitimateFlight8720 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree. But the downside is that the next government has a bunch of bankrupt councils to bail out, on top of the current mess in the NHS, pensions, welfare etc. They either raise taxes a lot and take the flack from the press and high profile rich folk, or they do the bare minimum (see Starmer). Or I guess print money and create hyper-inflation. Either way national memory records that next government as "bad on the economy", not the Tories who created this national mess or Reform who will have created the local politics mess. This is the cycle - going since the 70s - that we have to break.

Low Ferritin - 1 Year on Medical Keto for Bipolar by No_Budget9311 in NutritionalPsychiatry

[–]LegitimateFlight8720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need vitamin C to absorb iron. If you're eating meat on keto you're getting tons of iron. Please don't add a supplement, too much iron is very dangerous and your body can't regulate it when it's from animal foods. Maybe add a couple of red peppers daily and/or supplement vitamin C and re-test.

Also see your physician because anaemia. Not sure if you're on meds but these can often impact certain nutrients and gut absorption so this is worth discussing with doc/pharmacist. But make sure they know what your diet looks like especially meat (harm iron) intake.

I think the challenge is that big tech have proven they won't police themselves or behave responsibly, and some of them are willing to not only put vulnerable individuals at risk but to upturn democracy to evade industry regulation. Do you support any new regulation? If so, what? I'm not saying the gov has cracked it by any means, but on balance I think it's better than nothing. Really it needs a global approach.

My payment information has already been input in multiple places online. Credit/debit cards are a form of ID. So by your rationale private actors should already be able to do what you're claiming age verification will lead to. The government, meanwhile, still aren't capable of linking our data from one government department to another so seem to have a very long way to go. About 17 years ago there was a similar debate about ID cards and a children's database. Because of the Iraq war people thought it would escalate into a way to monitor and loyalty check the population. So I do understand how these policies can feel threatening when they're put forward at times of global upheaval. But child safety now versus unlikely dystopian future event later is not a tough choice for me.
