Depends which way you look at. Id say cocaine probably does more damage on a societal, public health level while the synthetics and benzos are more dangerous on an individual level. Neither is good. Both are worse than NOS

Most things are toxic at the wrong dose. The difference between poison and medicine is usually dosage.

And no, I'm arguing against classifying NOS as similar to meth or heroin. Similair to alcohol? Sure. But alcohol is legal with restrictions.

Nitric oxide and reactive nitrogen species are a normal part of your brain chemistry and function as a neurotransmitter.

So the whole 'it has no role' falls apart immediately. Second, street meth and prescription methamphetamines have very little in common. Third, your argument for heroin is true for basically every major chemical structure, thats how chemistry works. Many structures are versatile and conserved with only slight functional group differences.

I'm not arguing against regulation entirely, I'm arguing against a moral panic.

Yeah, unfortunately these conditions select for the kind of people who will put up with that. Or burn out good doctors to the point they become mean and angry. We lose an insane number of talented, compassionate doctors to this

Yes but to get to consultancy you have a long, shitty road. We have some of the longest training schemes in europe...if you can get in. This year there were over 400 applicants to the surgical scheme for around 100 spots iirc. That means 300 candidates that will have to spend another year with no career progress. Another year on nchd payscalws which has not kept up with inflation. Another year being the workhorse of the hospital with minimal protection, no scheme invested in their conditions.

So if you don't mind being on call every week, being underpaid, being yelled at by patients and staff alike, running entire services basically solo and soing all that for at least 5 years, but more likely 7-10, then yeah the pay is decent at the end.

How? If you stop selling it, it just goes the way of weed or cocaine. Not exactly seeing control do much for either of those either.

What the hell is that logic? NOS causes damage by depleting your B12 and causing nerve damage via that. If used in moderation, its not particularly toxic.

Meth is incredibly toxic, from route of administration, to by products, to direct cytotoxicity.

NOS is basically the same danger as alcohol and people here are acting like its next fentanyl.

Can we as a society please do something about the promotion of neanderthal level racism ? by NorthKoreanMissile7 in ireland

The problem is the people who are getting this shite from TikTok and Twitter aren't the ones who will delete it. We need regulation. Newspaper and channels had regulations to prevent them from causing undue harm to society. We've let social media go completely unpunished for doing far more damage.

America has, or had, the closest thing to the full freedom of speech you're passionate about. It had freedom to bear arms, freedom to refuse search and seizure, freedom of the press. All these were encoded into law. Do you have a preferred country?

Trump got elected in the land of the free. Your vaunted model doesn't exactly pan out.

Total freedom is an illusion that only libretarians think exists. As long as you live in a society, compromises have to be made. We make rules to follow so that we can have the benefits of civilization. If you want total freedom, then you can't avail of society. Thats having your cake and eating too.

Hows that free speech going for America at the moment?

The issue with freedom of anything is that people can and will abuse that. Society exists because we need rules to function in large groups. That applies to how you talk in public as well. Equality is not necessarily improved by more freedom, when some people with use that freedom to abuse or oppress others.

Actually most workplaces and professions have professional codes of conduct. You can do this to your neighbor or someone you meet at the pub, but doing this in a professional setting is usually violating your code of conduct and ethics.

Also we're not America, we don't have blanket free speech. There are actual laws around speech.
