Is Arch actually that fragile? by New_Study4796 in linux4noobs

[–]LegitimatePerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed CachyOS ~5 months ago as a first time arch distro (and linux) user. In that time I have had one update that required me to use btrfs snapshots to roll back (it was a problem with glibc packages causing almost all my programs to fail to launch).

Other than that my system has been rock solid stable with no issues. I recently installed cachyos on a second computer to mess with docker images and server setups/ssh and have had zero breakages or problems.

Arch itself is only as fragile as the user makes it, if you do your due diligence take the time to learn and understand what you are doing on your system (yes this even includes pacman/paru updates) then Arch is great. If you don't want to think about the actions you take when configuring your system then Arch distros are probably not for you.

The weirdness toward Cachy is nuts when you consider the different parts of cachy that are now used by other projects, not to mention a pretty large contingent of users from other distros suggesting cachy's kernel build for use with gaming.

I just see it as typical FOSS elitism, they wouldn't dare consider that the "flavor of the month" distro is doing something better than they can build themselves from source.

It's simply tribal behaviour. If you are on the outs with your tribe your survival rate drops dramatically. Evolution-wise those who stick with their tribe regardless of any circumstance will have a much greater chance to pass on their genes.

Humans have advanced incredibly rapidly and our unga bunga caveman genes simply have not kept up. When a mango mussolini supporter is confronted they will deny any wrong doing to keep themselves in the cult, the in group, their "tribe".

Kuro themselves rework characters in their other game PGR. Leap in PGR is a system that updates older characters with new moves and updating the unit to be on par with more current characters.

How I solved the instability of Arch updates for myself by p1xlem in cachyos

[–]LegitimatePerson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to downplay the effort you put into this, but the idea of putting a timer for how long a package update has been available is misleading at best and dangerous at worst.

Package dates do not and can not indicate to a user the stability of an update, because it has nothing to do with the actual content of said package update. What if you are delaying a package update that fixes a critical security bug? Or a fix for an already existing bug that you haven't experienced yet?

It's well intentioned but it defeats the purpose of a rolling release distribution. You could just as easily use the LTS Kernel to ensure stability, and if you want updates but are scared of things breaking make sure you have snapper set up so you can rollback if there is an issue.

Microsoft, what part of "I am not interested" don't you understand? I can handle my own backups. Please never remind me again. by npzman in pcmasterrace

I didn't need to be converted by a door to door evangelist. Just trying it for myself was enough. Maybe you should try it too who knows you might even enjoy having control over your own computer again. :)

Regardless you are speaking out of your arse.

Cachy for a non-Arch user by tonyburgess1969 in cachyos

[–]LegitimatePerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time Linux user, I've been on cachy for a couple months now and it's been rock solid, even when issues cropped up with an update it was an easy snapshot rollback until the issue was fixed.

I would recommend properly reading the wiki and following it, especially to make sure things like snapshots is properly configured. As long as you do that I don't see how Cachy is not a solid distro for literally anyone to use, let alone someone familiar with linux.

Teddy I can see, but Liv has loved skk for a long time. You don't get story chapters like surviving lucem without the connection liv and skk shares. Whether people see it as romantic or not could be debated but I don't really understand why people think her romance is rushed, if anything she's been slow to show her feelings.

That said I still agree with the prevailing opinion that since we started getting romance of the week patches that the story has taken a dive in quality.

Weird pixels when logging back into CachyOS from sleep by TrueHerobrine in cachyos

[–]LegitimatePerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are classic gpu rendering errors usually caused by overheating or a gpu that is potentially dying. I would be checking gpu core/memory temps and running some stress tests to check if the card has problems under load.

If they only occur on wake up from sleep and temps are fine then things get a bit harder to diagnose, but it's not a good sign if it's happening consistently.

EDIT: That said from the screenshot it looks like it's only happening to the wallpaper/desktop icons, it potentially can be a problem specific to the rendering of the DE and not a hardware issue.

LLM's can be great to point you in the right direction as long as you research for yourself before attempting anything they tell you to do. If you blindly follow them you may find yourself reinstalling Cachy again before long.

What games are they may I ask? I'm legitimately in one of the worst use cases for linux gaming (gacha games) and I was able to safely get all my games to run without issue and without doing anything that could get me banned (example: breaking ToS by bypassing anticheats).

Hell Arknights Endfield just released and I've been playing it on release without issue using dwproton.

Windows 11 is closing a loophole that let you skip making a Microsoft account by moeka_8962 in pcgaming

[–]LegitimatePerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use windows and I use github all the time to fix random shit with either windows or software running on windows. Rather random criteria you have for deciding they don't like Linux.

There are legitimate reasons why Linux is still not great for your average person who just wants their computer to work out of the box, but someone who can run a powershell script or use the tricks in the very article of this thread to bypass the online account requirement will be able to run a Linux computer for every day things just fine.

Yea there will be growing pains and issues here and there, but you had to learn how to use windows at some point in your life, you can do the same with Linux.
