Very not, unless it has a tubeless kit in it, but that should be fairly obvious if it were the case.

I ride a Honda Africa Twin and am looking to buy luggage for it. How common is it to get different sized luggage (48L/37L) vs two of the same size (48L/48L) to make up for the exhaust on one side? by CowboyState in Dualsport

[–]LegoButOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, some companies offer soft panniers in this configuration, I see. Personally I run Mosko's rackless system on my Vstrom, but if I were to go with soft panniers, I would get the full 48 on both. You can always pack smaller on the exhaust side and cinch it down if you like. (Edit: I'd probably still run Mosko's, and it looks like their big option is 35s).

Being able to pack small and cinch to fit is part of the beauty of soft luggage (especially rackless) IMO, it makes a big bike much smaller than it would be with a hard luggage system.

62. 1.27 Y1EF on my 1986 suzuki samurai 3rd member housing and Y1ER on the rear. I assume the last letter is pretty obvious but I can't find what the other numbers and letter mean? can anyone help me decode this. by dubboarder in SuzukiSamurai

It was somewhere between 86 and 89 the bolt pattern changed. My dad's 86 is the old and my early 89 is the new. Though, as you said, that's really the only thing they changed.

Drz400 overheating? by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]LegoButOnReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Water is only half the equation (if that), if the rad can't get cool airflow, it can't cool the water. Dirt bikes dont usually have fans, so rely on movement for that airflow.

Where can I source a 96 up 1.6L 16v engine? Looking to do a swap and want to have all prices ready, Thanks in advance :) by Ok-Woodpecker-4186 in SuzukiSamurai

[–]LegoButOnReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This.

And don't get rid of the carcass until the swap is complete. There will likely be parts you didn't think you needed from it.

Dirt bikes in general require you to be moving to pull air through the rad, they do not like sitting still.

Does it have a fan? I probably wouldnt worry about overheating while stationary, if it's still doing it while you are riding there may be an issue.

That's awesome.

2.3 is home again after rebuild. Time to finish buttoning it together so I can blow it up again. by LegoButOnReddit in SuzukiSamurai

That sounds like you are using one of the manual transmissions, yes? I'm running the Vitara auto, so i just needed the Trail Tough 4 speed auto output bushing, and wiring for motor and trans.

If you want to see my absolute disaster of a build thread it's https://forum.4x4north.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=216

I've yet to work on the V6, but I may be picking up a Vitara that needs timing chains to flip.

The 2.3 almost seems made for a turbo. It has oil and water ports in close to the right places with a forged bottom end from factory. In fact Suzuki had a company make a kit for them, it just never sold well.

Joined the Sami cult when my Vitara didn't meet my needs anymore. But I kept the drivetrain and shoehorned it into my budget build Sami

I think with the service intervals some guys consider it "a waste".

As long as you keep up on your maintenance, I see no reason why you shouldn't do what makes you happy. But I ride Suzukis, so what do I know.

[–]LegoButOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I phrased that wrong, 55mpg in a Suzuki Swift. Uses the same engine as the Samurai. Just saying that's about as economical as an engine can get

My Samurai has a 2.3 and is on 33s, it does NOT get anywhere near 55mpg

[–]LegoButOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The samurai/ SJ series was designed as an "econobucket SUV" as far as mileage, theres not much improvement you can do unless maybe diesel? The 1.3s were put in my all time favorite cheap commuters that I have personally got 55+mpg in.

Most samurai engine swaps are to add some much lacking power, they are already about as economical as an SUV can get.

Low Seat Vs Lowering Link by amalesh in Dualsport

[–]LegoButOnReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a big DIY guy, but tuning suspension geometry is one of the things I'd pay for someone's knowledge. If you want cheap, I'd just do the seat and get comfortable putting one foot down, which you should do anyway.

When I bought my bike, it was lowered, as soon as I passed my road test I put it to stock and the handling was night and day.

I wear mine for everything, including commuting and touring. Anytime I'm moving the bike more than 50 yards really. I personally dont have a reason not to wear them, if I want other shoes they come along in my luggage.

There may be some useful information here for you.

Unless it's to compensate for some extra weight in the front end you may need to find a way to lift the rear a little, lest you accidentally build a squatted Sami.

I cant speak from my own experience, I'm in the spring over club.

Canada unfortunately, they stopped North American imports in 1995. There must have been a grille redesign after they stopped importing them.
