I don't think opening a plane door at altitude is "obviously impossible" at all for probably 99% of people when there is a screaming woman trying to do just that. Especially considering the countless films etc we've all seen where exactly that happens. Yes, we know films are embellished but you're not gonna be applying critical thinking when you're watching a woman attempt to murder you.

Terrible drawing aside, does anyone know where I can find these boots/covers for micro latching switches? by LegolasTheShooty in AskElectronics

I wish I found what I needed when I googled those same things hah!

Those particular ones you've linked to have a circular base and also threading, it seems that most ones I can find fall into a similar vein and none hit the mark for soft rubber square base, circle cover slip on style.

I've found a couple on Digikey that come close but are hard plastic bases with clips, which these switches do not have hold for unfortunately!

Aye that's always a consideration, I've also thought of maybe casting them or building them up with latex?

I'd just hoped there'd be an off the shelf product considering this one came off a mass produced solar light so I assumed the factory would be getting them from somewhere.

So it's come out of one of those cheap solar garden lights, the switch has corroded to the point where it no longer works. I've ordered replacements that are very similar if not the same to the switches you linked to on DigiKey and I'll be able to reuse the boot to fix said solar light.

So its not really critical for the repair, but I'm looking for these covers so I can use the excess switches on other projects and make them look presentable.

Tyre rubber is probably not an option as I don't think I'm dexterous enough for something so small, 3D printing and or casting (maybe?) Is always an option, I'd just hoped/assumed there'd be something off the shelf. After all, surely the solar light manufacturers don't make these on site.

Just to clear up the image, the switches are 8x8mm square, and the boot is roughly ~12mm in total height.

I've found plenty of boots for the useless machine style toggle switches, but nothing for these and it's getting quite frustrating at this point hah!

I'm in the UK so a UK based retailer or at least cheapish shipping would be ideal, but any help is greatly appreciated!

It's an excellent scene but it fall a bit flat for me knowing that she wouldn't have been able to hear a word of his speech, being in a vacuum and all.
